With the Angry Birds movie still fresh in our minds, we weren’t expecting to revisit the series so soon. Nonetheless, today we were in for a more traditional Angry Birds experience, where the birds once again retained their original forms and became void of any speaking capabilities again. Short gags, proper laughs and silly animations are probably the proper way to describe this first part of the third season of the Angry Birds Toons.

Angry Birds Toons S3

Like we stated in our review of volume 2 of the second season, the Angry Birds Toons are pretty much just that: Toons. You’ll be treated to very short cartoons that are fast paced, action packed and above all attractive for young and old. Pretty much all episodes will revolve around conflict, often between different piggies and birds, or sometimes even among themselves. While many episodes are original (short) tales, some use classical tunes while trying to present you with a parody of some well-known stories. For example in this portion of the third season, Goldilocks and Dracula both get the Angry Birds treatment, which is certainly a witty view for a more mature audience.

It’s only sad to see that the creators decided to release the third season into two volumes, as one part only spans about 35 minutes, making sure you blast through the thirteen episodes in only one short sitting. Nonetheless, the gags are lighthearted, and probably nice for children to see several times in a row, as it’s clear the gags are directed towards a younger audience, not meaning an older audience will not enjoy themselves.

The extras add a little bit of additional content to the mix, as The Bird Hour with Ted Robinson returns, which presents you with a bit of live action content. Short recaps are also added, in which you can see some of the characters’ reels of the season, showing their many different forms. Other than that, you’ll find a few trailers and a very short behind the scenes video.

Conclusion

Angry Birds Toons: Season 3, Volume 1 proves to be an entertaining pastime for children, and older fans of the Angry Birds franchise. While this DVD may only present you with slightly more than half an hour of cartoons, it’s still worth checking into if you already loved the previous seasons, or simply adore cut slapstick humor.
