After leaving the frozen castle behind and with it the desperate rituals of those who inhabit it, Johan and Allis return on their way to see Merlin. Not much has changed, Johan and Allis might have gotten a bit closer during their journey, but the goal remains the same, namely to see the wizard who gave Johan this mission. In the meantime Malfrat is still on their tail, but life goes on, and it seems that Merlin is right around the corner, hopefully putting an end to this arduous quest.

De Rode Ridder #257 De Onmogelijke Opdracht Banner

Johan’s journey is nearly at an end, as Camelot is right around the corner. The frosty mountainside is making way for a green and luscious setting, but it doesn’t mean they’re out of the woods just yet. They encounter none other than the buckling that pestered them during their journey on the mountain. They have to be extra careful though, as last time Malfrat was tied to the goat with his chains, and it still seems to be the case. While initially the villain seems to be near death, he still puts up a fight and takes Allis hostage. While action ensues and a victory is achieved, Allis gets wounded mere moments later, putting her in a state of trance, showing her true purpose, or at least snippets. Time will tell how this saga will continue.

Illustration wise not much has changed, safe for the change in scenery. The snowy mountains now make way for a more green setting, and Johan’s allies are more in the picture as well. As always, the ‘new’ style that is being used since the 250th issue is now something we’re completely used to, and it’s hard to reminisce on how the older issues were drawn.

Conclusion

De Rode Ridder #257 finally shows an outcome of what Allis’ true purpose is, or was supposed to be. Again many things happen in this short issue, but we are finally getting somewhere, making us wonder what the next issue will bring. Luckily it’s never a long wait until the next album is released.
