In the past, we have taken a look at several of Devolo’s products that increase the quality of your internet in your home. Some were simple WiFi extenders, while others followed their ‘powerline’ principle to make older devices that require an Ethernet cable go through the electrical grid. This time, we are taking a look at one of those sets, namely the Magic 2 LAN triple Starter Kit. This kit is ideal for those having a proper media setup for their home entertainment, which still runs with Ethernet cables. With the device in this set, they’ll be able to connect three Ethernet devices to one of Devolo’s adapters.

The Starter Kit that was given to us has two devices inside. Firstly, you’ll have the broadcasting device that has to be linked to your router via an Ethernet cable. This looks like the standard Devolo transmitter, albeit with an embedded power plug, so the one you’re using doesn’t go to waste. You can just use a wall plug in the room, and then plug something in the adapter. Devolo’s kits always look quite spiffy and simple. The white adapters always match every type of interior, and when they have an embedded electrical outlet, you hardly notice them when another device is plugged in. This will also entice parents into opting for one of these sets, rather than tacky off-brand kits.

The second device in the box is actually the one with the triple LAN function. This device needs to go close to the devices you wish to hook up to. After mere seconds (sometimes a minute or two) the device is ready to go, and it will link to the one connected to the router. Upon doing so, you can start connecting your LAN devices to the triple transmitter, and you have a proper internet connection, without having to replace older devices or going through the hassle of having them all on the wireless network. This is quite interesting if you wish to link some consoles to the internet and actually have a very stable connection, without having to add normal WiFi extenders or even upgrade your router.

As we just stated, a stable connection is the key asset of the LAN triple. These devices use the ‘powerline’ principle, where you just link the two adapters together via the electrical grid of your house. This mainly converts a part of what would otherwise be an Ethernet cable, or a WiFi signal, into data transfer via electricity. This also guarantees a lot better data transfer speeds than a WiFi connection, thus more ideal for gamers who don’t want any lag-spikes to occur when gaming. On top of that, the LAN triple makes streaming services a lot more stable, which is also quite nice in a time where Netflix, Amazon Prime and Disney+ rule supreme.

Conclusion

It must be said that Devolo’s products aren’t the cheapest on the market, but that price tag always ensures quality when it comes to their internet solutions. The starter kit of the Magic 2 LAN triple is an ideal package for those who want to hook up their media setup to the internet without having to resort to wireless adapters for each of the devices or having to go through the hassle of a WiFi setup. A fast connection is ensured, compared to the somewhat whimsical nature of normal WiFi repeaters. If you’re looking to connect some device in a semi-analog way, this package might be quite interesting for you. You can also opt to purchase a package with two of the triple adapters as well.
