Diablo II: Resurrected gets a release date and an open beta

Blizzard has announced the release date for Diablo II: Resurrected, the faithfully remastered version of the classic action RPG classic. Diablo II: Resurrected brings along the Lord of Destruction expansion as well -two landmark entries in the company’s genre-defining action RPG series. The game is making a welcome return to Windows PC and will make its debut on modern consoles. Diablo II: Resurrected arrives on PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4 and Switch on the 23rd of September. Players will be able to get the full version of the game on that date, but if they preorder today, they will have early access to the upcoming beta test on supported platforms. This open beta will feature one multiplayer mode and will take place on supporting platforms in August. It will allow players to try out five of the game’s seven character classes to choose from: the Amazon, Barbarian, Paladin and Sorceress from the original core game and the Druid from the Lord of Destruction expansion. The other two classes, the Necromancer and the Assassin will be available when the game officially launches.

Resurrected sees the original game’s iconic 2D characters get a new lease on life as fully realized 3D heroes. The dark fantasy world of Sanctuary has been boldly re-envisioned with rich and often gory detail. Sanctuary comes to life like never before with up to 4K resolution support and fully remastered 7.1 Dolby Surround audio. The full 27 minutes of in-game cinematics have been lovingly recreated with stunning high-fidelity visuals as well, so those who fondly remember the gripping storytelling of the original will be able to experience the critically acclaimed originals for the first time again. Although Resurrected takes full advantage of today’s modern gaming hardware to bring the experience to a new level, studio Vicarious Visions stays true to the game’s origins as well. The timeless hack-and-slash gameplay forms the core of Resurrected, although it does come with a few QoL updates. Anyone waxing nostalgic for the original can seamlessly swap between the modern graphics and the original 800×600 resolution experience.
