It has only been a month since we last tried on GUNNAR’s flagship model, the Lightning Bolt 360, that had you covered for every occasion. The highly professional gaming glasses prevented dry eyes, had the option to swap lenses and temples, but also the nose bridges were interchangeable. The glasses were deemed a bit pricey for a casual gamer, but competitive gamers, those with or without the need for prescription glasses, could actually benefit from these impressive goggles. This time, however, we go back to basics, albeit with a shiny lick of paint to celebrate Ubisoft’s latest installment in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Valhalla. GUNNAR developed a special edition pair of glasses with a very nice-looking Valhalla print. Again, this model is available for those with prescriptions as well.

Even though the package is a bit less impressive than GUNNAR’s LB 360, we were greeted with a nice solid case with the Assassin’s Creed print of Valhalla on it. In it, we could find a small pouch containing the special edition rendition of the Enigma with the AC Valhalla design on it. The nice teal frame with the runic print on it actually made GUNNAR’s more expensive model shy in comparison. While the latter may still have more options than this one, the Enigma has the 360 beat in terms of its actual design. This frame is also a lot more subtle and feels more natural for day-to-day usage for casual gamers, where the other one would scream out a certain vibe of you eating and sleeping in front of your monitor.

If we have to be completely honest, GUNNAR made this model a lot sturdier than the Lightning Bolt 360, as this one has a more solid frame, and it’s also slightly tighter. The latter might take a bit of time getting used to, especially when you have never worn a pair of glasses before, but it also feels sturdier and better suited for your head. Of course, with the Enigma, you will have to make do with its standard function and have no swappable components for different types of situations. This is just a sturdy pair of glasses with a very nice print, but that is something most people are looking for, for a (first) experience, or a replacement of their normal goggles.

In terms of options, the Enigma has a lot less on offer and/or on display than its slightly more professional sibling, the Lightning Bolt 360. This pair of glasses will basically serve as a normal pair, as it only has the standard functions, namely, its solid plastic frame, the lenses of your choosing and the option to have it tailored to your prescription or not. While this model is clearly not intended to compete with the LB 360, it’s still a nice accessory for your gaming sessions. We have to be honest though, eyestrain also depends on the user itself, as some people may experience nothing when gaming for hours on end, while others get eyestrain rather quickly. We do advise to first try out with a cheaper model to see how things work, and then it’s certainly a great idea to buy something as cool and nice as GUNNAR’s special edition in this scenario.

Conclusion

GUNNAR’s Enigma with its beautiful Assassin’s Creed Valhalla coating is a very nice day-to-day pair of glasses for those who spend a lot of time in front of their monitor(s). While the prescription version will set you back a pretty penny, the sturdy frame and the overall comfort factor is not shy of that of a designer’s glasses. While some may have liked the removable nose bridges from the Lightning Bolt 360, this solid hunk of plastic is actually quite easy to maintain, without getting too much grime and dirt in said nooks and crannies of the plastic-shaped nose bridge. We did notice that the lenses require a bit more maintenance to clean them. Nonetheless, a great pair of glasses for those who need their daily fix of Assassin’s Creed.
