Magic Mike XXL (Blu-ray) – Movie Review
It’s not wrong to say that a lot of women have taken a trip to the movie theater to watch Magic Mike XXL. Who doesn’t want to see loads of six-packs and tight bums? For the people that were too late to see this spectacle, the movie has recently been released for the little screen, giving you the opportunity to watch those spectacular bodies in Blu-ray definition.
Before we can understand the situation of Magic Mike XXL, we need to take a step back and reminisce about the first movie: Magic Mike. Here, we could witness how Mike (Channing Tatum) was dragged into a lot of crazy events in his job as male entertainer. He promised a girl named Brooke to watch out for her brother Adam, as he was rolling into the business. This didn’t turn out as planned but Mike was able to quit the job and start a new life with the love of his life.
Magic Mike XXL starts three years later and our head actor is working hard to make his dreams come true: his own well-fledged furniture shop. While he and his co-worker were getting some goods, he misses a phone call of one of his old friends. It seems that Dallas, the strip club owner, is gone. Mike wants to pay his respects and visits the ceremony, although it looks like there has been a misunderstanding.
The ‘Kings of Tampa’ or Tarzan (Kevin Nash), Ken (Matt Bomer), Big Dick Richie (Joe Manganiello) and Tito (Adam Rodriguez) are back in town and they hoped to see their good ol’ pal Mike. It seems that they are going on a last trip to Myrtle Beach, where they want to end their careers in style by attending the Strippers Convention. They try to gently persuade Mike to join them on their last parade, but he refuses as he has a girlfriend and a business to take care of. Later that night, he gets the dancing vibe back and decides to take the plunge. The gang goes on quite a journey, where they will understand that every member has their own set of personal problems.
Overall, the flow of the movie is quite fast with some slower parts. What might be a tad weird is that they try to put in a more deep storyline, which might not fit the setting of half naked dancing men completely. Every member of the team seems to have some underlying problems. For instance, Tito wants to follow his dreams but he isn’t sure if it is a good idea. It would not have been terrible if they didn’t do anything with these problems, but they eventually fit in nicely. Even more, they use these issues to give the viewer a whole new level of stripping.
At any rate, the actors did an excellent job. Their acting skills are really great and they did a really nice job for maintaining their bodies. Even more, the whole team certainly had to trust each other, as they really have to do some rather intimate stuff. At least they already know each other from the previous movie. We all know Channing Tatum from films like Step Up, G.I. Joe and Jupiter Ascending, where he had to flex his muscles a lot as well. He didn’t lose his touch as he can move quite fluently, although the other guys have their own talents as well. We all know the male entertainers from series or other movies, like Adam Rodriguez from CSI: Miami, Matt Bomer plays in White Collar and so on. Thank goodness we saw another side of them, with less clothes on.
There aren’t that much available extras as you only get two possibilities. Firstly, you get a small video which explains how they’ve gotten their moves, while the other one shows the extended dance of Malik. It would have been nice to get a bit more footage, but you can always watch the movie for a second time.
Conclusion
If you’re planning a girls’ night or you’re just keen to see some nice torsos, you can definitely watch this movie. This means you will need to love some naked male bodies, which might actually make or break if you will watch the movie (hence the given score). If you’re into some teasings, you’ll be presented with quite some eye candy, with an underlying story as well. The acting performance is great as well, so you’ll get a decent package.
