Today, Square Enix announces that the highly acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online now has over 20 million registered players in total. In addition, new details and a trailer for the next major update have been released, following the most recent Letter from the Producer LIVE broadcast.

Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is the third expansion to Final Fantasy XIV Online. It has been critically acclaimed and highly rated since its release in July 2019. The expansion includes beautiful new environments, the new gunbreaker and dancer jobs, the Hrothgar and Viera varieties, the Trust system, and much more to provide hundreds of hours of content to both old and new players.

The next update (patch 5.3), titled Reflections in Crystal, will be released on August 11, offering new players the ideal opportunity to dive into Final Fantasy XIV Online. Producer and director Naoki Yoshida announced that the experience of the original game’s main questline, A Realm Reborn, has been streamlined. Newcomers to Final Fantasy XIV Online can enjoy a free trial experience with all of ‘A Realm Reborn’ content and that up to level 60. There’s also free-to-play content that delivers hundreds of hours of the award-winning gameplay and narrative experiences for players to enjoy for as long as they want.

In addition, all existing and future A Realm Reborn players will have access to the complete the Heavensward expansion and all the benefits it brings.

Patch 5.3 also provides existing players with many new challenges, including the final of the Shadowbringers storyline, the next chapter in the NieR-inspired YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse alliance raid series, and more.
