StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void now available

Last year we caught some glimpses of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void at BlizzCon 2014. The highly anticipated third iteration of the StarCraft II real-time strategy series has now been unleashed upon the public.

The game features an immersive new campaign where players take the role of Artanis, Hierarch of the Daelaam, and take command of the might Spear of Andun. The latter one is a protoss arkship that is capable of altering the course of battle from high above. When doing so, players will get to determine the fate of iconic StarCraft characters such as Jim Raynor, Kerrigan and Zeratul.

All iconic characters aside, StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void features “an epic campaign, game-changing multiplayer units, and all-new co-op and competitive modes,” according to Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. Morhaime also adds that all of this combined “makes Legacy of the Void our best StarCraft game yet. With more gameplay and story updates planned for after launch, and a new era of world-class StarCraft II esports ahead of us, the future of strategy gaming has never been brighter.”

Packed with new features and enhancements, Legacy of the Void will give players a multiplayer strategy experience never experienced before. Here’s an overview of what’s to expect:

  • In Archon Mode two players share control over a single base and units as they take on an enemy duo in multiplayer action.
  • Brand-new co-op missions will provide players with an all-new way to enjoy StarCraft II with friends while they take over the roles of powerful commanders from the StarCraft saga.
  • New multiplayer units such as the Lurker, a classic creature from StarCraft: Brood War, and the Disruptor – a Protoss’ weaponry that can use massive energy spikes on ground forces have been added.
  • The multiplayer experience will be enhanced in the form of automated tournaments, providing the players ongoing events supporting the competitive StarCraft II community.

StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void is available on Battle.net and in stores for a suggested retail price of 39.99 € or its local equivalent. Anyone who purchases Legacy of the Void will also receive Artanis, noble Hierarch of the protoss in Heroes of the Storm. Players also have the option to buy the Digital Deluxe Edition for 59.99 €, which unlocks a variety of in-game bonusses such as an Archon battle pet for World of Warcraft and a Void Speeder mount in Heroes of the Storm. Naturally the game is also available in a retail-exclusive Collector’s Edition which upgrades the Digital Deluxe Edition with a special edition of the StarCraft Field Manual, special features and cinematics and a soundtrack.
