The original StarCraft prepares for the 4K era and receives a makeover

The original StarCraft was a groundbreaking sci-fi real-time strategy whose gameplay and balance set the standard for the RTS genre and inspired a lot of developers in the past two decades. Blizzard decided to remove the dust from this old classic and give it a remaster fitting for this 4K Ultra HD era. StarCraft Remastered will maintain the core gameplay and balance that made it highly celebrated, accompanied with the renowned expansion StarCraft Broodwars. All of this will receive a complete graphic overhaul with remastered graphics, audio and UHD support up to 4K resolution. Blizzard hopes to release StarCraft Remastered coming summer 2017 for both Windows and Mac but an exact price or other information will be released on a later date.

In preparation for StarCraft: Remastered, Blizzard will update StarCraft: Brood War later this week to version 1.18. The update will include bug fixes and improvements, including the ability to rebind keys, observer mode, modern anti-cheat measures and compatibility improvements for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. After the update is live, StarCraft Anthology, which includes the original game and the Brood War expansion, will be free to download and play for everyone.

For people still unknown to the StarCraft universe, the games pulls you in an action filled space adventure onto the planetary battlefields of the war-torn Koprulu Sector. You’ll be able to command the forces of the zerg, protoss, and terrans in their struggle for galactic domination and relive the epic saga of Marshal Jim Raynor, Kerrigan, and Praetor Fenix. And if you seek some real challenge, you can duke it out against fellow players in this polished version of the online competitive RTS that was the benchmark for the genre.

Being over 30 years old, I've been playing videogames since I've exchanged my pacifier for a game controller. I've only recently started reviewing games and it's incredibly fun to do and educational as I get to know a lot of new stuff about videogames and the industry. My favourite game genres are RPG's(strategy RPG, J-RPG,...), adventure, platforming, simulation and retro.
