The last few months we have been taking a look at the DVD releases of all the seasons of The Smurfs. Now, season 7 and 8 have been released for our enjoyment, with only season 9 on the horizon to finish off the series. While these cheap rereleases are quite fun to find yourself taking a trip down memory lane, probably with your children, they are not always a perfect 10 in terms of quality. Even though the content is still adorable and enjoyable, we have encountered some dips in image quality, as well as audio sync issues and inconsistent remastered content. Is this still the same for the two releases discussed below? Sadly, it sometimes is.

Like the previous seasons, in The Smurfs, you’ll get to experience very short adventures, often spanning around a simple problem that needs to be solved, to bigger adventures involving other magical entities, the household villain Gargamel and so on. Overall, it’s nice to just put on a few of these short episodes, relax with the kids (or have them enjoy it on their own) and be involved with kid-friendly adventures.

As mentioned in the previous reviews of these season boxes, there are plenty of quality dips, where the footage becomes very blurry. This is not the only issue, as at times you can also find small audio sync problems and so on. Things get a bit more stable the further we get into these seasons, but it does take back from the otherwise enjoyable experience.

Conclusion

Truth be told, if you have already bought the previous seasons, these are very nice to add to aim for a full set. Add the fact that these DVDs are also quite affordable, and you have yourself a nice collection of old-school cartoons and perhaps a tiny part of cartoon history. While the quality is still a bit dodgy at times, the overall content is still amusing to explore. You can’t really go that wrong with these releases if you’re a fan of The Smurfs.
