5 Best Superhero Movies for 2018
The superhero comic writers of the 1940s could never have dreamed of the exploits on which their characters would embark in the future. From Vegas games to the movie screen, male and female superheroes are inspiring and engaging youngsters and adults worldwide.
There are several new superhero movies scheduled to be released in 2018. Some of them are sequels to old favorites while others bring new superheroes to the screen. There are also animated superheroes for the youngest superhero fans.
Some of the 2018 superhero films include:
Avengers Infinity War
The Avengers are back with a storyline that’s bound to thrill their old fans and draw in new admirers. The Infinity War episode follows Thanos who arrives on earth 2 years after the Avengers were torn apart during the events that occurred during Captain America: Civil War.
Thanos plans to collect Infinity Stones for a gauntlet that he intends to use to bend reality to his will. Now the Guardians of the Galaxy request the Avengers’ help to stop Thanos before his plans destroy the universe.
As the movie opens, Thanos reveals his goal of annihilating half the universe. Thanos gains control of the Space Stone and the Power Stone and Tony Stark announces a plan to bring the remaining stones to a location where they can be guarded. These include the Mind Stone and the Time Stone.
The movie features epic fight scenes plus the interaction of compelling characters with old favorite characters and new introductions. It remains to be seen if all of the characters survived their encounters with Thanos – which the director has already indicated isn’t a sure thing in the Infinity episode. There are a lot of unanswered questions that will be answered when the movie is released on April 25th.
Black Panther
Black Panther is the newest and arguably most impressive of the Marvel Comics films. The movie was released in early 2018, providing viewers with an action-packed film that combines a great cast with great writing and good directing.
Black Panther, like the Avengers Infinity War takes place in the era following Captain America: Civil War. The film Black Panther’s alter-ego Prince T’challa as he returns to Wakanda following his father’s death. T’Challa is now the king and must lead Wakanda into a new era in the modern world.
Wakanda is both a traditional society and a thoroughly modern nation. The country is a highly advanced, technological metropolis but the citizens have hidden their knowledge in order to protect their way of life. To the world, they appear as a backward society.
T’Challah’s father encouraged this pretense because he wanted to protect a natural resource called vibranium. Vibranium gives the country the ability to advance technologically at a quick pace. Wakandans have believed that by keeping Vibranium out of the world’s eye, they can keep peace and prosperity within their boundaries.
Wakanda’s way of life is threatened by Ulysses Kalue, a notorious arms dealer, who, in collaboration with Erik Killmonder, have discovered the vibanium and are determined to secure it for themselves. T’Challas must thwart Kalue and Killmonder’s efforts while deciding how to bring Wakanda into the 21st century.
The film has garnered good reviews from critics who are impressed with the storyline and the rich characters. The action sequences are impressive but so are the interpersonal relationships, both between T’Challa and the people around him as well as with his adversaries.
A highly-recommended film for all ages.
Ant-man and the Wasp
Scott Lang is the anti-hero Ant-man who bumbled his way into a superhero status that he doesn’t really want. In this movie he teams up again with Hank Pym and Hope van Dyne to uncover mysteries of the past and find out more information about the quantum realm.
The original Ant-Man featured Evangeline Lily as The Wasp! And she reprises her role in this film where she takes more of the action as she and Ant-Man go into the Quantum Realm. The film is scheduled for release at the end of the year, just in time for the Christmas season.
Incredibles 2
Incredibles 2 is another one for the kids but adults will enjoy the action of the animated Incredibles family where superhero powers are an accepted fact of life.
In Incredibles 2, Helen, Mrs. Incredible, becomes a more active superhero but this means that Mr. Incredible, Bob, is left at home with Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack. In addition to coping with the “normal” life of being a dad, Bob must also deal with the fact that Jack-Jack has emerging super-powers of his own.
But, the family that fights villains together stays together and the Bob, Helen, Violet, Dash and even baby Jack-Jack band together with their old nemesis Frozone to battle the bad guys.
Incredibles 1 has always been regarded as one of the top Pixar films of all times and now with Incredibles 2, fans can watch the family grow, both in superhero power status and as a family unit. This 60’s-tinged superhero tale leans into modern family dynamics to bring an exciting tale to the big screen.
X-Men Dark Phoenix
In X-Men Dark Phoenix, the X-Men go cosmic in an action-charged mission to space. The X-Men team undergoes challenges, both as a team and in their interactions with mysterious alien Jessica Chastain.
Reviewers are cautiously optimistic about X-Men Dark Phoenix which seems to have ironed out the kinks seen in X-Men: Last Stand.
