Epic Clicker Journey – Review
Clicker games have been around for a while now. Although the genre started on computers, it shifted its direction towards mobile devices. It eventually might’ve cost you your phone screen by pressing too hard or you might have gotten detention because you were playing during classes. With Epic Clicker Journey, you’re able to dive into a click-infested game on your Switch. Get those fingers ready for some fast movements and relive those golden days.
Story
The game doesn’t provide anything storywise, which is the case a lot of times. It would have been nice to have something like this to stand out, to bring something else to the genre. Especially seeing that the game does present you with a variety of characters, it would have added some value to the game as to who you are beating to a pulp, and more importantly, why.
Graphics
Epic Clicker Journey has a full-blown comical style where both the backgrounds as the enemies feel like they jumped out of a comic book. The opponents are inspired by other characters or people from other games or events, which makes it rather enjoyable to play the game and makes you snicker now and then. The environments per level are different too, having small Easter eggs all over. Don’t expect butterflies and flowers though, but some rather creepy sceneries.
Sound
As expected, the music is rather heroicly themed as you need to fight off a lot of different enemies. You’ll be greeted by energetic tunes and more while being both in the overview as inside a level. There are only a few tracks in the game but they don’t tend to bore you. Even more, it might make you think of the good old’ Settlers.
Sound effect wise, there isn’t that much variety. Of course, hitting the opponents is audible and some softer tunes here and there but there isn’t much more to discover, or it’s not that striking, to say the least.
Gameplay
Epic Clicker Journey is a clicker game where your fingers will have to do all the work. As this game is on the Switch, there are two ways to play the game. Or you can tap the screen or use the two bumper buttons on the controllers to perform your attacks. The goal is to improve your stats and cut down any foe that stands in front of you. The stronger you get, the further you can explore the world map. The game offers three difficulties, but before you can access any of the more challenging ones, you need to get through the first, easy one.
Each level has a certain amount of monsters you need to slay before you get to the treasure chest. The further you go in the game, the more damage each opponent does. You can counter this in two ways. First of all, you can upgrade your armor and weaponry by the money you earn by slashing foes, while leveling up also earns you skill points which you can distribute. You can choose to increase your damage, DPS, defense (which will increase your hp) or luck.
If this isn’t enough, you also have some items to equip, which can be used in the battle for survival. Each foe has a few hashtags and using these items at that point will inflict massive damage, giving you the advantage of the fight. Other items are usable only once, whenever you need it, rather than being rechargeable. You can also buy an extra fighter for your team, who can also carry some of these goodies. All that can’t be taken with you, is sold for some extra cash.
Next to money and treasure chests, there are also special levels that drop keys. These are needed to unlock certain parts of the map or to unlock healing fountains in the endless mode. In this level, you have to get as far as you can without dying. It’s a fun change of pace and running away is always an option. Being low on health means you’ll probably need to wait until it regenerates again or you can pop a potion, although this costs quite a bit in the store.
Conclusion
Epic Clicker Journey is a game where you have to click and bash your way through hordes of enemies while improving your own items and get the best goods of the game. The controls are rather easy as you can tap or button bash, guided by some nice comic-like graphics and rather heroic music. Are you ready to get some cramps in your fingers?
