Train Valley 2: Passenger Flow DLC – Review
Public transportation is very different around the world and some countries are notorious for their many delays and cancellations while others shine in always being on time and apologizing for being 30 seconds too late. We recently had the chance to try out Train Valley 2, a game all about public transportation and solving puzzles. We were now able to take a look at the Passenger Flow DLC of the game.
Passenger Flow is a DLC for Train Valley 2, and the base game is required to play the extra content. If you’ve played the first Train Valley, you might already be familiar with the Passenger Flow mechanics. This DLC will make the gameplay resemble the original game and put more focus on passengers then goods.
Train Valley 2 is a puzzle-strategy train simulator. We can split this into two main parts. On the one hand, we have a train simulation. If you’re familiar with trains you already know that they run on tracks and that they explode if they collide. It’s a bad idea to have two trains on the same track driving towards each other. Having a really fast train behind a slow train is also not a great idea as trains in Train Valley don’t brake unless you explicitly tell them to do so. A big part of this game involves managing your tracks and the trains running on them. On the other hand, you have the puzzle-strategy element. Building tracks to connect buildings and towns cost money as well as erecting new buildings. Putting this all together means you’re managing your resources to build tracks that connect buildings so you can transport goods between them. You finish a level when you have produced and moved certain amounts of goods to specific places. If you want to learn more you can find our lengthy review right here.
As mentioned above, this DLC brings back the passenger trains from the original game. Not only does it pleases the fans of the original it adds another layer to Train Valley 2, making it even more fun and challenging. It sounds all relatively easy; a passenger shows up at a station and has a destination. These passengers have unlimited patience and will wait without complaining until their train leaves. However, the complexity comes from the fact that you can only have one passenger at any given time at any station. If a second passenger shows up at the station a passenger train is dispatched immediatly which might cause trouble down the line. It is best to keep tight control over when and where trains leave stations. This is where the collisions come into play, you want to avoid those at all costs as you will lose the train, the passenger and the tracks in the explosion, costing you time and money and possibly your score points for this level.
Train Valley 2 – Passenger Flow DLC adds twenty brand new levels to the game set in various locations around the world. As with the original, you collect different locomotives and the DLC adds six new ones to the collection once you unlock them. The DLC also includes new sound themes. The base game already came with integration in the Steam Workshop to create your own content and the DLC adds more content to it.
Conclusion
Train Valley 2 – Passenger Flow DLC is a great addition to an already fun game and it should also be pleasing to fans of the original with the return of the Passenger Flow mechanic. As it is a DLC, you need to base game. If you really enjoyed Train Valley 2 then the DLC is a nice addition with about five to eight hours of gameplay. If you don’t have the base game be sure to check out our review to get a clearer picture.
