After a long wait, the first DLC for Outer Worlds, Peril on Gorgon has finally arrived to PC and consoles. This DLC brings players to the world of Gorgon, where a Spacer’s Choice Project has been suddenly abandoned. With this DLC, the amazing story of Outer Worlds can be continued yet again for another adventure in Halcyon!

Story

The story of Peril on Gorgon revolves around a project for the development of Adrena-Time situated on the Planet of Gorgon that was suddenly discontinued and abandoned. As the captain of The Unreliable, you get a peculiar message involving a recorder held by a severed arm that belongs to Lucky Montoya, an old friend of the original captain, Alex Hawthorne. He gives you the details on a job on Gorgon, that is said to have a big reward. After speaking with Minnie Ambrose, you get the task to retrieve her mother’s diary from the lab where she worked and probably perished in. With a lot of twists and turns, this is a fun and intriguing storyline to follow.

Aside from the main quest on Gorgon, you’ll also encounter NPCs while exploring Gorgon that will give you some extra side quests to increase the fun even more. Just like in the base game, your companions will constantly take part in conversations with the main quest’s important characters to state their opinions on what’s discussed.

Graphics

Like with most DLCs, Peril on Gorgon won’t offer any upgrades in graphics or anything like that. They did add a whole new world to explore with the planet of Gorgon, which looks as great as all the other planets you can already visit in The Outer Worlds. The game doesn’t really offer anything new in models for outfits or weapons as it is entirely focused on the new story that’s been added. Barely any new enemies have been added, so new cool looking enemies won’t be what you’ll find on Gorgon.

Sound

The sound, just like in the base game, is definitely worked out great. All the characters are fully voiced and they all sound perfect. We didn’t notice anything new to the background music and sounds, but whenever something is going to happen, the atmosphere gets tenser with perfectly chosen background sounds.

Gameplay

The Outer Worlds is a first-person action RPG and with this DLC, nothing has changed to that. Peril on Gorgon gives you the opportunity to start playing this great game again for a new adventure on a new planet.

When arriving on Gorgon, you won’t really notice any big changes to the game’s mechanics and gameplay. Everything has stayed the same, even those things that could’ve used some improvements, like the inventory interface that should have been tweaked just a little bit for a better gaming experience. New unique weapons have also been added to the game that can be found throughout Gorgon, which makes the quest for looting interesting yet again!

What has been changed, is the level cap of your character. The original level cap was thirty, which has now been increased to 33, which feels like an odd number and is sure to get increased even more with upcoming DLC’s. With the ability to level up three times more, you’ll get more skill points to increase your skills yet again. With this new level cap, the skills have increased their level cap as well, with all the skills now having the possibility to go to 150. As skills offer extra effects on specific skill level milestones, a new extra effect has been added for all the skills when you reach the new level cap of 150. Luckily, if you’re not happy with the choices you’ve made in the past, you can always use the respec machine, that resets all your skill points and perks so you can rearrange them at will.

Conclusion

Peril on Gorgon brings you to a brand-new planet full of new locations to explore and a whole new storyline that will keep you busy for several hours. If you count in all the side quests you can complete and exploring every nook and cranny of Gorgon, you’ll have plenty of things to do, which makes the DLC also worth its money. The DLC also offers some new unique stronger variants of existing weapons with higher stats to improve your damage output even more. The increased level cap also makes you level up once again, which is always a target for gamers while playing a game. All in all, Peril on Gorgon is a great expansion for one of the best games that released last year. If you already loved playing the base game, then this DLC is a must-have to revisit the worlds in The Outer Worlds and kill some Marauder scum on your journey.
