Moving Out – Movers in Paradise DLC – Review
Overcooked! paved the way for the reintroduction of party games in our current gaming landscape. Team17 has been heavily investing in these types of games, with their most recent party/multiplayer releases being the new Moving Out game and Rogue Heroes. The latter sadly missed its mark due to many different multiplayer bugs, but proved to be quite enjoyable offline. Moving Out, however, was a very refreshing game and perhaps a bit undervalued during our first playthrough. We now have a small expansion with a tropical theme to lengthen our moving escapades, while also a free update has been released under the guise of ‘Moving In’.
After a small tutorial to refresh us on how the game’s mechanics work, we found ourselves on Packmore Island doing what we do best: trashing places to get some surviving pieces of furniture to a new location. This expansion throws us in a tropical environment where water will form a hazard, as well as annoying crabs that come steal items back from the truck. This was generally a nice concept, even if it ends up with one player just smacking the hell out of said crabs.
This DLC adds a few new characters to the mix as well, on top of the 14 normal levels and 10 arcade levels. The latter is, just like in the base game, something you’ll either love or hate. The overall package is quite meaty and will prolong your Moving Out experience with quite some extra game time, especially if you’re going for those high scores in each level.
Everything feels quite nice and almost perfect even, except for the fact that once again you never really feel in control. The wonky movements of the characters, as well as their drifting movements, are of course an intended feature, but sometimes this can also mean you mess up a nearly perfect score, because of your wobbly character.
Conclusion
Movers in Paradise is a fun expansion of the base game, and it offers new challenges to overcome. As mentioned in the initial review, you don’t always feel in control, and with extra platforming sections in this one, it becomes particularly clear. Nonetheless, the content that’s present is very entertaining and amusing and it feels very meaty for a reasonably priced expansion. We hope to see more updates such as these in the future, as we see a bright future for this IP if there would ever be a sequel.
