OlliOlli World: VOID Riders DLC – Review
A few months ago we took a closer look at OlliOlli World, which proved to be a very entertaining experience. We loved becoming the world’s newest Skate Wizard, and we thoroughly enjoyed the overall gameplay. Now, the VOID Riders DLC has been released, and it adds a few new levels of an extraterrestrial nature. We once again picked up our digital skateboard in order to show the aliens what a Skate Wizard can do.
In all honesty, this review is going to be extremely short. The new DLC adds a few extra levels revolving around the alien visitors that want to learn more about our world and, of course, see you skate. The main new mechanic that has been added is the tractor beam, in which you can raise or lower yourself when you are flying through. This new gimmick is used to access new routes, jump over even bigger gaps, or even perform wacky jumps in order to complete some challenges. We didn’t expect ourselves to be flying through a massive tractor beam in order to collect cows for the alien visitors, but it ended up becoming a fun(ny) challenge. Other than that, you’re getting more of the same, with the new mechanic embedded into the levels.
We played through the new levels in less than an hour, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. We spent a bit more time completing all of the new levels’ challenges, but these are not mandatory to progress. While the content was a lot of fun, the amount you have to dish out for it feels a bit much. If the DLC came at half of its current asking price, it would have been a lot easier to convince people to buy it.
Conclusion
OlliOlli World: VOID Riders is an interesting but very short DLC. We very much enjoyed playing through the new stages and the new mechanic of the tractor beam is also a lot of fun. Other than that, you’re getting more of what you already experience in the base game, which means you’ll be getting quality content. We would have perhaps wanted to see a bit more content or a lower price tag for this one. Nonetheless, if you’re a diehard fan of the base game, this DLC will certainly entertain you for a bit.
