HyperX Fury USB Flash Drive – Hardware Review
Here at 3rd-Strike, we’re always excited to see new HyperX Fury products. A little while ago we announced the release of the HyperX Fury 3.0 USB Flash Drive line-up, here you’ll read its review. The drive is a member of the Fury family, so we’re expecting performance at a budget price.
The HyperX brand is really trying to make a stand within the world of gaming PC hardware. Besides SSD’s, RAM memory, headsets and other peripherals, the HyperX Fury USB Flash Drive is their new kid on the block. They themselves say the drive has a bold and aggressive casing design. While that is partly true, there’s a cool looking aluminium-like design element which does look aggressive and has a different colour depending on the capacity, the overall feel of the drive isn’t that great. Holding the drive, you’ll really feel how the case is made out of plastic. It also has a removable cap which is likely to be lost quite soon. While it does click in place when pushing it on the back of the drive, it doesn’t seem to be attached quite securely. A light touch will already send the the cap flying around. Also the USB-connector itself had some wiggle to it, adding to the overall cheap feel of the product.

After benchmarking the Fury, I was surprised. Not only does it exceed the promised read/write speeds, it does it with a huge margin. As you can see in the graph, the drive comes very close to another Kingston USB3.0 drive, the DataTraveler R3.0 G2, which also performed excellently. Be sure to plug it into a USB 3.0 port when using it though, while the drive still performs quite well against other USB 2.0 drives, the difference won’t be as obvious.
What we like
- Excellent performance
- Great price-to-performance ratio
- Nice design elements
- Long warranty
What we don’t like
- The drive’s protection cap is easily lost
- Case-finish feels cheap
Conclusion
The HyperX Fury USB Flash Drive is a good choice for anyone looking for a great-performing yet budget-friendly USB drive. The HyperX branding means that slick design and great warranty are guaranteed. The overall product feel might seem cheap but the pricing more than justifies that.
