Cardfight!! Vanguard DZ Booster Pack 01: Fated Clash
If you have been playing Cardfight!! Vanguard, for some time now, you will probably know that the Standard format isn’t going through a reset, but instead, it’s entering a new phase. This means that the sets will start numbering from 1 again, signaling the dawn of a new stage for Cardfight!! Vanguard. This does of course mean you can still use your old cards for the Standard format, and you can keep customizing your older decks with the new support. Fated Clash, however, focuses itself on the new Ridelines with the Divine Skills, support for the recently released Start Up Trial Decks, and of course support for older decks. There is also quite a bit of the set dedicated to the Bang Dream! collaboration cards.
For this short article, however, we’ll mainly be focusing on the new Divine Skill keyword and the Energy skills. Starting with the latter, we have explained in our Start Up Trial Deck article that a new Energy Generator Crest was introduced and that a new resource system would be added to the game. DZ Booster Set 01: Fated Clash fully utilizes this mechanic, and it brings Cardfight!! Vanguard to the next level by allowing the players to use more skills and effects in order to play more interesting and more vibrant matches. An example of this is Fated One of Guiding Star, Welstra “Blitz Arms”, the new Welstra Vanguard, which can use Energy in order to Operate a Product from its Order Zone. This allows you to use your Counter Blast or Soul Blast for other cards, creating a more balanced flow of the game.
Secondly, we have the aforementioned Divine Skill. A Divine Skill is a skill that can only be used once in an entire fight. To circle back to the newest Welstra Vanguard, by using its Divine Skill, Welstra can place two Products in its Order Zone at once. When you put two cards at once, you can also operate one Product. This gives the new Welstra Rideline an easier way to put Mobile Fortress of Obliteration, Freischutz Maximum in the Order Zone, for example.
The set has four Fated One Vanguards that you can currently play with. You can find Fated One of Unparalleled, Varga Dragres, Fated One of Guiding Star, Welstra “Blitz Arms”, Fated One of Miracles, Rezael, and Fated One of Ever-changing, Krysrain in this set. Booster Set 2: Illusionless Strife will have three additional Fated One Vanguards that can be played with!
As always, we quite enjoyed messing around with the new Vanguards, as well as the new cards that require Energy as its new resource. We feel like the game has evolved to the next level, and with an additional resource type available, you can further create original and fun builds. We are looking forward to what the next sets will bring to the table (quite literally). Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be too busy figuring out our next deck builds.
