JBL Quantum 360 Wireless – Hardware Review
Recently we took a closer look at JBL’s Quantum 100N, a budget-friendly gaming headset catered towards Switch gamers. The device proved to be a piece of quality hardware for a more casual audience. With today’s review, however, we are kicking things into the next gear with the Quantum 360 Wireless, a multi-platform gaming headset. The Quantum 360 Wireless promises a premium experience for a mid-range price. We put the device to the test, and quite enjoyed what it had to offer.
Design
Even though the Quantum 360 Wireless comes in quite a few different color palettes, we were given the black model for our review. The Quantum 360 Wireless is a good-looking headset without too many bells and whistles. The headband has a matte coating, while the exterior of the earcups has a glossy finish, creating a nice contrast. The JBL logo is also displayed on both ear cups with a glossy finish. The ear cushions are clad in fabric, and so is the padding on the interior of the headband. Besides that, there’s a detachable microphone with a simple foam cap.
Comfort
Comfort-wise, we have absolutely nothing to complain about. The ear cushions are soft and have ample padding, and so does the headband. All of the padding here has a fabric finish, allowing it to breathe more. Due to this, however, it blocks out a bit less outside noise, but it never really bothered us. Weighing only 255 grams, the device is also very light. We could easily commit to longer gaming sessions or binge-watch our favorite shows without any discomfort. The detachable microphone is also a nice comfort feature, especially when we just want to enjoy our favorite tunes.
All the different dials and buttons on the ear cups are easily accessible, and they are distinct enough to quickly memorize all the different functions. Only the two different dials felt identical to the touch, so this took us a few sessions to get used to. That being said, the dials feel solid and actually stick out far enough to use them comfortably. We have had other headsets in the past where the dials felt flimsy or were embedded too deeply in the ear cups themselves, which made it hard to actually find them.
Overview
JBL’s Quantum 360 Wireless is very easy to set up, as you simply insert the 2.4 GHz dongle into the device of your choice, and you’re pretty much good to go. The device is compatible with PC, PlayStation consoles, Nintendo Switch, and so on. You can also opt for the Bluetooth connection, where you’ll have to pair the device with the chosen media device. It’s all very straightforward stuff, and as we’ll explain below, you can also connect the Quantum 360 Wireless to multiple devices at once.
The Quantum 360 Wireless is a multi-platform device, and we were able to dive into our favorite PS5 games and then swap to other platforms easily. The dongle connects without a hitch, and this was actually our preferred way of playing games or even enjoying our favorite media. With the 2.4 GHz connection, you don’t experience any delays and the connection remains stable at all times. Of course, we didn’t really encounter any real issues with Bluetooth either, but pairing devices can sometimes still be a bit of a hassle. We eventually opted for a Bluetooth connection with our smartphone and the dongle for our console or PC gaming sessions. Swapping sources can also easily be done via the assigned button, but in reality, we only did this when receiving a phone call or two.
Even though the Quantum 360 Wireless is only half the price of the Quantum 910 Wireless, the sound quality is still amazing. When playing shooters, the bass and the surround sound truly take over, but when watching your favorite shows you can easily make the voices pop when adjusting the settings. The headset has all the basic features readily available, such as a mute button, a volume dial, and even a game audio-chat balance dial. The latter is to ensure that you will hear the other players in case it’s a game that requires communication.
All in all, the battery life is quite good. With the 2.4 GHz connection, you’ll be able to game up to 22 hours with a single charge. When gaming via a Bluetooth connection, you should reach around 26 hours with a single charge. These numbers are fairly accurate, which means you don’t have to charge your headset after a single gaming session. A charging cable is included, but a regular USB-C cable will also work in case you accidentally misplace the one that comes with the headset.
Conclusion
If you’re looking for an affordable yet great gaming headset, the Quantum 360 Wireless has you covered on all possible fronts. You’ll be treated to a comfortable gaming headset with all the basic functionalities that you’d expect, but also additional comfort features such as the 2.4 GHz dongle and the detachable microphone. The device performs well on a multitude of platforms, and it has become our go-to device for both casual and more intense gaming sessions. On top of that, it offers great battery life, and being able to pair with multiple devices does add a bit of extra value to the mix.
