SPEEDLINK XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad Wireless – Hardware Review
It’s been a while since the last hardware review starred a gamepad, but thanks to SPEEDLINK the wait is over now. The Wireless XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad (it sure is a mouthfull!) is gamepad for PC and playstation 3 and has the shape of an xbox 360 controller? This might sound weird but the controller is aimed at gamers who have a preference for the Xbox controller and either have both consoles or just want something different for their playstation 3 or even something nice looking to match their PC.
I have to say that the first impression of this controller is amazing. The design simply looks stunning, fancy and what not. The buttons are still named like on an actual xbox controller, which might cause confusion when using it on the playstation 3, but it stays true to the original design, nonetheless.
The designers kept comfort in mind when designing the XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad, seeing the controller is covered with a rubberised coating that prevents sweaty hands and just feels like your holding something soft instead of a regular xbox controller. The back is slightly different aswell, because the designers added slight curves to it, to rest your fingers and again making it that more comfortable.
As far as handling the controllers, pressing the buttons and what not, everything works like it should, once again. Well everything, except for the triggers, that is. The triggers on the XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad feel as if they have no ‘resistance’ at all. Not really a big issue but it just makes this beautiful controller feel a lot cheaper. The original xbox controller even offer a little more resistance than this one. And when you’re used to the Thrustmaster GPX (lightback), this really isn’t the most comfortable feeling ever. Then again, this might just be me acting difficult, and this is being said when comparing controllers for the PC and not the consoles. (Seeing the GPX doesn’t work on playstation 3)
Everything else on the XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad is placed like it should, and it’s pretty much plug and play all the way. The only thing you’ll have to keep in mind is the fact you can’t turn your playstation 3 console on with the gamepad. Which really isn’t that much of an issue once again. Being a wireless controller means that battery life is an important aspect aswell. Well it’s easy to say, this piece of hardware easily beats a normal playstation 3 controller.
Own opinion:
The Wireless XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad felt natural all the way and actually made me a little sad, I can’t use this beauty on my xbox 360 as well. Keeping the price in mind this controller is a great buy for those who are looking for a great controller for their PC or a playstation 3 controller if your prefer the lay-out of an xbox 360 controller. Also this controller might prove great if you’re the owner of an xbox 360 and you tend to game a lot at friends who only have playstation 3 consoles. There are only 2 small bad remarks I can make about this piece of hardware and those are: The resistance on the triggers is pretty much none existent and XEOX looks too much like XBOX in my opinion.
As mentioned earlier, the price/quality value of this item is pretty much ‘awesome’. This piece of hardware costs as much as a wired controller for PC, which makes the wireless XEOX Pro Analog Gamepad a great piece of hardware.
