Story

The story starts with you, Michael. You’ve been asleep for a very long time when you suddenly wake up from a woman calling your name and calling for help. You wake up inside the trailer of Rod Atkinson, the man who saved you when he found you left dead. Somehow you’ve lost all your memory, and you have no idea where you are. Rob explains that you’re in a refugee camp, together with a lot of other people. You’ve all fled to the camp after “the Great Wave” took place, an unfortunate event that flung mankind back into the dark ages. No running water, no electricity and no communications. At first the camp was a good place, but now it’s more like a concentration camp, the army doesn’t let anybody out once they’re in, so you’re stuck inside the hellhole.

Another thing the Great Wave brought along are “the dissolved”. An inexplicable disease which is very dangerous and can easily be carried over suddenly appeared. The dissolved become very ill and get visions, they say they can talk to the dead and they bring information from them. Moments before they die, their cells break down and they turn into a brown puddle of liquid. To not cause panic, the army has placed a couple of spies inside the camp who have to report anyone that is harboring dissolved. Once a dissolved is found, the cleanup crew rounds him up and gets rid of him. The spies themselves are of course free to leave the camp whenever they want, the rest of the inhabitants aren’t that fortunate however.

After a bit of digging around, Rod tells you his son has caught the horrible disease. In return for saving your life, he demands that you find a cure for the disease, which is rumored to be somewhere in the city outside the camp. You’ll now have to face this cruel new world and find your way out of the camp and into the city, but of course this doesn’t go without danger.

On top of all this, you’re starting to get serious headaches where you see a different world, like the world around you has transformed and you’re the only one to see it. Also, the strange woman that awoke you from your dreams keeps showing up inside your mind, it looks like she’s trying to lead you somewhere…

Graphics

The graphics in Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today are very simple but also very dark and mysterious. You’re living in very dark times, and the graphics and environments reflect this very much. Most of the graphics are hand drawn and in 2D, which adds extra depth to the story and the game.

Settings wise, you’ll have no trouble at all to run this game. It runs great and doesn’t need a lot of processing power since there aren’t many animations. So even the lightest of PC’s could probably run it.

Sound

For such a small game studio, Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today has excellent voice acting and a lot of it! Every character has its own voice and there’s loads of characters to go around. Music also plays a big part in this game, as a lot of the scenarios you run into are so much more dramatic with some epic music in the background.

Gameplay

Gameplay wise, Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today is probably one of the easier games out there. It’s completely point and click and features a couple of puzzles here and there, but it’s nothing too crazy. The UI is very clean with only a suitcase being shown in the top left, which is your inventory. Objects can be interacted with by pressing the left mouse button, and examined by pressing the right mouse button. When you get stuck in an area and want to make sure you’ve clicked everything, you can press spacebar which shows you all the things you can interact with.

As said before, the game features some minor puzzling but it’s nothing big. It does however put you in a lot of thinking positions where you have to find out what to do, there’s not a lot the game does to help you. You’ll have to combine items in your inventory and think back your steps to see who you can help or where you can progress.

Conclusion

Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today is one of those very dark and surreal games that you come across once in a while. It has a great story, awesome graphics and point and click gameplay. You can get stuck fairly quickly however, which will have you resort to clicking everything with items in your inventory and trying to combine everything in the hopes of making some progress. Also, the ending isn’t rewarding at all, but that’s for you to find out!
