KontrolFreek FPS Freek Snipr for Xbox One – Accessory Review
Previously we’ve reviewed the KontrolFreek FPS Freek Galaxy and CQC Signature from the FPS Freek series. Both thumb grips – or stick extenders – proved to raise the player’s comfort levels while also providing enhanced grip. The series has received quite a boost in variations that feature entirely different designs and feels, allowing gamers to personalize their equipment even more while maintaining the most important features of the thumb grips.
The FPS Freek range was already quite vast, featuring a pletora of designs and colors that would suit nearly every gamer but KontrolFreek has recently expanded their FPS Freek series with even more designs, the FPS Freek Snipr being one of the new designs. The KontrolFreek FPS Freek Snipr features a deep laser-etched sniper cross-hair and external ridges which allows for a grip unmatched by many other thumbsticks available on the accessory market. Its army-themed color scheme green and brown fits the black controllers rather well but it is not your typical army camouflage that some of you might be looking for.
Adding an additional height of 13.9mm to your original sticks, the FPS Freek Snipr is the tallest thumbgrip in the FPS Freek lineup. Its domed thumb surface is partly the reason for its increased height but the deeply laser-etched design helps to prevent your thumbs from sliding off the sticks. You’ll be required to adjust to the increased height difference, especially if you’ve never used any kind of thumbstick before. However, the height difference forces the player to change the placement of their hands so that it’s not entirely bothersome. For players with smaller hands, the sticks may not be the most comfortable ones on the market but they felt easier to adjust to than the high-rise stick of the FPS Freek Galaxy which raised the height by a mere 10.4mm.
Installing the thumb grips was nearly as easy as the Alpha and it certainly gets easier over time. The three clips that hold your stick onto the original sticks did not chafe the analog sticks. This is a feature all gamers should really look into more deeply as this will prolong the lifetime of your analog sticks by a decent and acceptable amount of time. Removing the grips is significantly easier than installing them and once again, the three clips don’t chafe the analog stick upon removal.
Once the grips are installed, they cannot twirl around. We found this to be a positive feature, especially because the FPS Freek Snipr increases aim and performance. This makes it a superb grip for snipers and other long-range weapons that require precision. Performing trick shots and quick scopes has never been this easy all due to the grips offering a level of accuracy unmatched by any kind of analog stick.
The FPS Freek Snipr is designed with first person shooter games in mind. In fact, the sticks are advertised to work great in games such as Call of Duty Advanced Warfare, Battlefield 4, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Halo: Master Chief Collection and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. However the sticks do an excellent job at providing accuracy and comfort in many other games – including racing games although our all-time favorite for the racing games will always be the SpeedFreek Apex.
Conclusion
By boasting an increased range, the FPS Freek Snipr allows players to make smaller adjustments to their aim which in turn allows for a better accuracy and performance in the battlefield. However, being the tallest grip in the lineup makes the grips less accessible for players with smaller hands. The desire to increase our grip while gaining more depth of sensitivity and accuracy, all while decreasing the fatigue in our hands, has certainly been met. We can highly recommend the army-themed thumbsticks for any player who wants to boost their performance in any kind of first person shooter.
