There are a lot of series that use the police/detective scenario as a starting point and add a lot of specific elements that defines how the story will proceed. Mostly, the point of view is from the perspective of the cops while investigation crime scenes are puzzling evidence together to catch the criminal. The Blacklist is a series that combines the authorities part with the insights of the cunning Reddington, a mastermind that has the most resources and connections ever seen. In this third season, things are getting quite complicated, as Elizabeth Keen is in a lot of trouble.

blacklist 3

At the end of the previous season, things ended with quite a bang. It was clear that Elizabeth (Megan Boone) was being framed by Karakurt (Andrew Divoff) and the Cabal into killing dozens of people, with the Senator being one of them. This vile organization used these events to give her the blame and even accuse her of being a Russian sleeper agent. Raymond Reddington (James Spader) wants to help her and finds a way to escape from the clutches of the authorities, while Cooper (Harry Lennix) is being arrested due to the possibility of being an accomplice. In the end, the main goal of the FBI team is to find their number one on the wanted list: Reddington and his new ally Liz.

With Cooper being arrested, Reven Wright (Adriane Lenox) promotes Donald Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) as the temporary head of the team. He is keen on finding his old partner and giving her a fair trial, although there are people who want to see it otherwise, like the Director (David Strathairn) of the CIA. Ressler has the support of agent Navabi (Mozhan Marnò) and Mojtabai (Amir Arison) as they want to help to clear her name. Reddington is also preparing a huge plan to help Liz, although they need the help from the FBI team. The question remains if they will be able to pull it off, as the Cabal is still searching high and low for the two fugitives as well.

The Blacklist: Season 3

The third season of this series certainly packs a lot of punch as the certain events will get you on the edge of your seat, although there is still time to reminisce or get into some unsolved mysteries. These little moments certainly give you more insights regarding the key players and gives the chance to evolve their personalities. The episodes seems to flash by as there happens a lot which might leave you flabbergasted and wanting for more. It feels like this season is split in two parts, which only emphasizes the feeling that everything is going fast. This isn’t a bad thing of course, as it will keep you clustered to your screen. One other point is that some events aren’t elongated for no good reason, which certainly is great.

When taking a look at the actors, it is clear that Reddington is quite a figure, both lovable but a douche at the same time and James Spader fulfils his role with a charm. He is, without a doubt, one of the most important characters and undoubtedly stands out. Liz discovers also some darker sides, which will be a huge turnabout for her as well, while the other characters all have their own moments as well. Each and every actor plays their role marvellously and makes the series that much better. Diego Klattenhoff is the perfect impersonation of the good cop that fights for his beliefs and principles, although these fundaments get a blow now and then. The same goes for his two companions, as Navabi and Mojtabai each have their own struggles with the accusations of their dear (ex-) colleague, which surely shows in their interactions.

The Blacklist: Season 3

When you buy this season, you surely get some extra features. Next to the deleted scenes, which give you some extra insights, there are also a lot of extras that give more details on how some of the stunts were filmed, intel on the bad guys that make their appearance in this season and audio comments of some of the episodes. You won’t be disappointed with what you get.

Conclusion

If you like detective series with quite some action, a good plot with its additional twists and a great cast, you’ll certainly like The Blacklist. In this third season, things are going to get more clear and you might even get to see a new side of both Reddington and Liz. It will be a bit difficult to understand some of the references if you didn’t see the previous seasons, but there are enough new elements to keep you entertained.
