Booster Box 5: Awakening of Twin Blades
What is vanguard? Well it’s a TCG or a Trading Card Game, if you want to know how you start with it you can check our review ‘Cardfight!! Vanguard: Series 1 – Review’. In this one I will tell you what you can get out of the new Booster Box: Awakening of Twin Blades. What are the new clans? And what are the best cards? You’ll see my personal top 5 cards of this Booster Box. So if you aren’t sure if you want to buy it, just take a quick look through this and maybe it will give you the answers that you were looking for. The slogan on the box is “Believing in my own strength, I fight”
When will it be available to buy?
Well, Awakening of Twin Blades is the 7th Booster set that will be released in English format on the 23th of February 2013 and it was released in Japan on the 14th of January 2012.
The cards
Most Booster sets offer us 80 different cards. You have 8 RRR’s, 12 RR’s, 20 R’s and 40 commons. From the rare cards there are 12 cards that can be called Specials or Sp’s, because the foils shine in a different way. But if you buy a booster box you will only pull 3 RRR’s, 5 RR’s and 22 R’s and maybe one of them can be an SP. You can check out the rarity system of vanguard here.
Which clans
In this Box you have 10 different clans, the new ones are Neo Nectar and Murakumo. Both have a new play style.
The play style of Murakumo :They make use of hit-and-run tactics and are very defensive. Murakumo uses the strategy of superior calling from your deck or hand in your main phase or battle phase and returning to your deck or hand at the end of the turn.
The play style of Neo Nectar:The play style they use is calling units from your deck and having a full field. With this you can make sure that your opponent loses a lot of his/her field members or cards from his/her hand when defending.
If you buy the box the best thing you can do is, focus on the Murakumo, Neo Nectar, Royal Paladin, Shadow Paladin and Kagero clans. The other clans in it are Dark Irregulars, Dimension Police, Nova Grapplers, Oracle Think Tank and Pale moon and have only 4 cards of each clan in this Booster Box.
The best cards to get out of it
This is just a list of what the best cards are and why? Because of their effect. They all have a different effect that is ‘awesome‘ to have in your deck.
1) Majesty Lord Blaster:
Clan: Royal Paladin
The effect: [CONT] (VC):If you have a card named “Blaster Blade”, and a card named “Blaster Dark” in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+2000/[Critical]+1.
[AUTO] (VC):[Choose a unit named “Blaster Blade”, and a unit named “Blaster Dark” from your (RC), and put them into your soul] When this unit attacks, you may pay the cost. If you do, this unit gets [Power]+10000 until end of the Battle.
This card is amazing because when you have a blaster blade and a blaster dark in your soul you get +1 critical. This means that if you hit and it goes through that you can cause at least 2 damage. Your opponent needs 6 damage to lose, so this makes it more easy to win a game. Also when you put them both in the soul this unit gets 10.000 attack power extra and that’s really tough to guard.
2) Phantom Blaster Overlord:
The effect: [CONT] (VC/RC):If you have a non-«Shadow Paladin» vanguard or rear-guard, this unit gets [Power]-2000.
[CONT] (VC):If you have a unit named “Phantom Blaster Dragon” in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+2000.
[AUTO] (VC):[Counter Blast (3) & Choose a card named “Phantom Blaster Overlord” from your hand, and discard it.] When this unit attacks, you may pay the cost. If you do, this unit gets [Power]+10000/[Critical]+1 until end of that turn.
This card is really good, because if you pay the counter blast and discard another Phantom Blaster Overlord this card gets + 10.000 attack power extra and +1 Critical, so this card can probably make you win the game.
3) Dragonic Overlord The End:
Clan: Kagero
The effect: [CONT] (VC/RC):If have a non-«Kagero» vanguard or rear-guard, this unit gets [Power]-2000.
[CONT] (VC):If you have a unit named “Dragonic Overlord” in your soul, this unit gets [Power]+2000.
[AUTO] (VC):[Counter Blast (2) & Choose a “Dragonic Overlord The End” from your hand, and discard it.] When this unit’s attack hits, you may pay the cost. If you do, [Stand] this unit.
This is also one of the best cards of the booster box, because you can stand this unit again if you pay for the effect. The effect means that he can stand again, attack again and do his twin drive again.
I really want this one so bad! (Yes, I play with Kagero – I confess.)
4) Maiden of Blossom Rain:
Clan: Neo Nectar
5) Stealth Beast, Leaves Mirage:
Clan: Murakumo
The effect: “choose one of your «[clan]» unit, that unit cannot be hit”.
They are both called ‘perfect guards’, and they make sure one unit can’t be attacked during this attack. No matter what the other person pulls or what his or her attack level is. These will especially be useful if you decide to build a Murakumo or a Neo Nectar deck.
Conclusion:
This is a great box, but I hope the effect of the cards aren’t becoming too overpowered. When creating too much stronger and even stronger effects the game will end up to be very unbalanced which will force you to keep creating newer and newer decks even if the clans don’t really match your play style. In the end it’s a game to have ‘fun’ and this is an aspect which should still be kept in mind for the more casual players amongst us.
