After 3 decades, Apidya returns!

Cult classic Apidya is set to make its return in 2026 with Apidya’ Special, a handcrafted 24-bit pixel remake of the 1992 Amiga shoot ‘em up. The game is being developed by members of the original team alongside a longtime fan-turned-developer. The project builds upon a once-abandoned console port from the 1990s, blending preserved assets with fresh pixel art, authentic sound effects, and remixed audio. Chris Hülsbeck, who composed the music for the original game, contributes a newly arranged soundtrack, alongside updated and classic tracks. Players can choose between two presentation modes: a new widescreen format with enhanced parallax effects or an Amiga-style 4:3 display, with optional CRT shaders and scanline filters to capture the look and feel of the original.

The game expands upon its roots with five themed worlds, each containing up to five stages, as well as hidden areas, 20 unique bosses, and random in-game events such as a “Night Mode” variant that alters enemy designs. Co-op play introduces the option for a second player to control a supporting drone, while new accessibility and difficulty settings aim to make the experience approachable for both returning fans and newcomers. Apidya’ Special is set to launch for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch in 2026.
