Things have settled down in the present day, but the five original X-Men from the past still linger around, even attending school with the other mutants. Even though Warren went with the future Cyclops, the rest of the group is intend of staying and seeing how they can help, or perhaps even steer the future towards something better. Sadly, they know that when they get sent back, they will have their memories wiped away, and thus, in the end nothing will change. It’s become more and more clear that the group will have to return, at some point.

It’s hard to write a lot about this issue, without having to spoil what’s actually going on. To keep things simple, we can state that another timeline gets dragged into the equation, as the X-Men from the future appear out of thin air, to warn the current X-Men that they are making a mistake by letting the X-Men from the past remain in our present. From here on out it’s a battle of reason, of why they should or shouldn’t stay. Some agree, some don’t, while others don’t know what the best course of action will be. All groups have their own reasons for wanting to press on their beliefs, but it’s clear that things will eventually get out of hand.

The pace of this bundle is hard to describe, as you’re being bombarded with tons of information, yet the timeframe everything is happening in is rather short. You’ll learn that the future X-Men have very conflicting thoughts towards the X-Men from the past, while those in our own timeline are torn amongst themselves. Overall, Brian Michael Bendis and Brian Wood write a very interesting storyline for this ‘new’ arc, which involves three different timelines.

Illustration wise not much has changed, even with the second half of the bundle being in a slightly different style. All drawings are detailed, and beautifully colored, while maintaining a certain ‘tightness’, thus leaving behind sketch lines, but still taking decent care of shading techniques. A proper mix of realism and ‘comic book characters’.

Conclusion

All New X-Men #006 is probably the most interesting part of the series up until now, even though there isn’t that much (physical) fighting going on in this omnibus. Proper storytelling takes the lead, which allows you to process the many things to come. Certainly worth the wait, and we hope the next issues will properly elaborate on all what has transpired.
