Our TellTale experience of the Batman universe has been a pleasant and positive one so far, albeit with Batcaves full of bugs, which hampered the overall fluent gameplay and immersion. Nonetheless, we liked both the traditional Batman elements, as well as the ones TellTale altered to create a truly unique experience revolving around world’s favorite gloomy dark knight. We were sad that’s it already time for the second-to-last chapter, and seeing the fifth chapter is also out at the time of this review, we already know that saying goodbye to this series will be rather hard.

Batman Telltale Episode 4 1

If, after reading our review about the third episode, things sounded rather different than your experience, it means you simply made different choices, thus we will not focus that much on the story portion of the series anymore, but rather on the overall story value, and the mechanics.

This fourth chapter will revolve around the further decline of Bruce Wayne’s reputation, even if you decided to save Harvey Dent earlier during the story. It seems he isn’t such a good ‘pal’ after all. Nonetheless, Arkham Asylum will become a rather familiar sight during the course of this episode.

Again, the story value is top notch and if you liked the earlier installments of this series, you’ll certainly like this one as well. You will notice this chapter is the second-to-last, where everything is properly put in order to present you with a flashy finale.

Batman Telltale Episode 4 2

Sadly, this positive experience is once again pestered by rather shoddy controls during the ‘free walking’ section, as well as tons of frame drops, longer loading times than what should be allowed for a game with a last generation graphical quality and other minor bugs. Even though all of this doesn’t really take back any story value, it just becomes rather annoying to see things only get worse as the game progresses, making this project feel a bit rushed, or as if it wasn’t handled with care when it comes to the actual gameplay and graphical elements.

Conclusion

Just like the previous chapters, we thoroughly enjoyed this fourth chapter, and we are quite happy this journey isn’t quite over just yet. The only regrettable issue about this new series is the fact that TellTale doesn’t seem to care about fixing performance issues and many other minor bugs that damage the overall experience. Bugs aside, the series is still going strong and we can’t wait until we are able to plow through the last episode for its exciting conclusion. Story, atmosphere and some badass moves are probably what define this series.
