Cardfight!! Vanguard Start Up Trial Deck
As we have made clear over the past few articles, Cardfight!! Vanguard is an evolving card game that adjusts itself to its player base. We have seen brand new mechanics being added to the mix, while fan-favorite old mechanics have also been brought back. The game is currently an ideal pastime for card game enthusiasts, be it newcomers and veterans alike. When a card game evolves, new systems are introduced, and that’s also what we’ll be discussing here today. The brand new Start Up Trial Decks are now available in all Cardfight!! Vanguard partner stores. Each nation has its own Start Up Trial Deck.
These new starter decks include everything you need to learn the game. A single deck comes with a pretty deck box, themed sleeves, the brand-new Energy Generator crest, the counter to keep track of your energy, tokens, and two spiffy PR cards that you can customize your deck with. As a whole, it’s a fun bundle. With everything that is in the box, you can start playing immediately, and you have all the accessories readily available to protect your newly purchased deck.
As this is a starter bundle, the deck revolves around teaching players how to play Cardfight!! Vanguard. To keep things simple for new players, the cards in the deck will not have any complicated effects. Only your grade 3 Vanguard will make use of the Counter Blast and Energy Blast mechanics. This is an ideal way of learning the ropes. The additional PR cards do have effects on them, and this also allows players to gradually add more advanced cards to the mix.
Outside of the so-called ‘vanilla’ cards in the deck, you’ll also find 16 Trigger cards, and these go over the four different types of Trigger Units. Players will get to work with Heal, Stand, Draw, and Front Triggers. This will once again allow new players to slowly learn the ropes before they start customizing their deck, or make a brand new one. The newest booster pack, DZ Booster Pack 01: Fated Clash, will provide ample support for the Start Up Trial Decks, as well as new Ridelines to play with.
As mentioned above, the Energy Generator Crest that comes with these Start Up Trial Decks is very important. Cardfight!! Vanguard players will need an Energy Generator Crest in their decks now to use the Energy system. With the Energy system, you’ll unlock new skills that require Energy Blast as a cost. Of course, there are also cards that will allow you to Energy Charge. Every turn, each player (starting from the player who goes second) can charge 3 Energy at the start of the active player’s Ride Phase. Players who do not have cards with Energy Blast in their deck can still do an Energy Blast 7 (which means you’ll have to use 7 counts of your accumulated Energy) to draw an additional card from the top of their deck. Players can only have a maximum of 10 Energy. This means that if you have 10 Energy, and you don’t use it, you will not receive additional Energy at the start of your next Ride Phase. All in all, it’s a new, interesting system that allows you to combine different ways of paying for your skills and effects. Keep in mind that you’ll have to use official counters to keep track of your Energy total.
With the introduction of this new system, we cannot wait to see how the game evolves in the upcoming DZ Booster Packs.
