Crypt Custodian dusts off a release date!
Crypt Custodian, a top-down metroidvania-meets-Zelda-like game developed by Kyle Thompson (known for Sheepo and Islets), is set to release on August 27th. In the game, players control Pluto, a mischievous cat who finds himself in the Afterlife’s Palace. Following a mishap with the Afterlife Guardian, Kendra, Pluto is banished and assigned the role of the afterworld’s janitor indefinitely. Players will interact with other ghosts, battle various creatures, and explore a vast landscape filled with secrets, diverse inhabitants, and numerous hidden areas. As the game progresses, rumors of a priceless treasure within the palace emerge, suggesting a way to communicate with the living for those who are unable to move on.
First revealed at this year’s Guerilla Collective showcase, Crypt Custodian represents a significant advancement in terms of presentation, mechanics, and complexity compared to Thompson’s previous works. The game builds on the successes of Sheepo and Islets, combining heartwarming storytelling, quirky characters, humor, responsive gameplay, rewarding unlockables, and lush worlds. Players will complete puzzles, battle bosses, and clean dungeons to acquire new upgrades and abilities. These upgrades not only enhance exploration but also allow players to customize their combat style. The combat system is designed to be tight and fast-paced, focusing on dodging, quick movements, and strategic attacks. Published by Top Hat Studios, Inc., Crypt Custodian is set to be available on PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and the Xbox family in the near future.
