We all know the famous quote: “Whose balls did I have to fondle to get my very own movie? I can’t tell you his name, but it rhymes with Pullverine.” This one got most of us hooked on the first Deadpool movie. With Deadpool’s dark sense of humor and his brutal way to deal with enemies, he stole the hearts of many fans and now he is back to entertain us some more in Deadpool 2. The first movie was addressed as a “ROMANTIC” movie, uhum, and this one as a “FAMILY” movie… We just can’t seem to find air quotes big enough to put around those words. But who doesn’t like a good F-word movie?

Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) aka Deadpool was reunited with his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin), at the end of the previous movie. As a ‘not-a-superhero’ he takes on the bad guys at the start of this movie. On his wedding anniversary, he didn’t succeed in killing a certain crime lord and ran out of time thus he went home thinking nothing of it. After hearing that Vanessa’s baby factory is now open for business, the house got invaded with that same gang and in an unfortunate turn of events, Vanessa got killed.

Heartbroken Wade hunts down every last one of those responsible, but he can’t manage to kill them all, as one perpetrator remains, namely Wade himself. Wade can’t help but blame himself for the loss of Vanessa, and thus he feels that he is as guilty as the killer himself. He tries to kill himself in any possible way imaginable, but nothing works. Even blowing himself into twenty pieces can’t seem to destroy him. Colossus (Stefan Kapicic), one of the X-Men, finds him and tries to bring him on the right path again. Which fails, of course…

In his near-death experiences, he sees Vanessa with a message for him, that his heart isn’t in the right place. With those words in mind, he tries to become a better man and becomes a trainee of the X-men. At his first mission, an abused mutant boy by the name of Russel (Julian Dennison) tries to burn down the institution he’s in. Deadpool tries to help him and when the boy says that they hurt him, Deadpool snaps and kills one of the workers of the so-called institution. This results in both the boy and Deadpool going to the Ice-Box jail, which is a prison specifically designed for mutants. Before settling properly in the prison, where everyone is outfitted with a power dampening collar, they are disturbed by Cable, a man from the future, who’s seems to have it out for one of the two mutants. All of this truly is a great introduction for a so-called ‘family movie’!

The flow of this movie is very different from the first one. The first one was very action packed and fast. This one, not so much. Okay, we get to see a lot of gory fights and suicide attempts, especially at the beginning but overall this movie focuses, throughout the gory action scenes, hilarious jokes and dark humor, mainly on the mental growth of Wade. This makes the movie feel rather slow in comparison to the first one.

Deadpool 2 has an amazing cast, but did you really expect us to say anything else with Ryan Reynolds starring as the protagonist? We also see many familiar faces like Morena Baccarin, Karan Soni, T.J. Miller and many more. But do not worry, there are also a few new ones to be seen, like the new frenemies Cable played by Josh Brolin and Firefist, played by Julian Dennison.

If you are a hardcore fan of the Deadpool franchise we would recommend watching the extras. Although there are a few Easter Eggs already out in the open, there are maybe a few you didn’t discover, like a hidden famous actor for example. Besides this you can find the crew, bloopers and much more over here. The Blu-ray version also has a second disc with the full movie that includes the scenes that were left out, which weren’t even shown in the cinema.

Conclusion

Deadpool 2 is a totally different take on the franchise than Deadpool one. The movie lacks some speed and maybe a bit of action in several parts. Besides that, it is an amazing movie. Filled with even more brutal jokes of the one and only master of dark humor, Ryan Reynolds himself. They also put in a lot of gory elements, we can’t even count how much limbs were detached from bodies in this movie and all for the benefit of even more laughter. If this is not your cup of tea, don’t watch, because you will be offended and violated throughout the whole movie or you can just pull that pretentious stick out of your ass and enjoy the rest of the movie with us.
