In November the second Dragon Ball Xenoverse passed our revue and we liked it a lot. It had fresh fighting mechanics, a truckload of quests, many moves for your customizable characters to learn, and above all, it was an interesting fighter on an already saturated market. This time we take a closer look at the first DLC package, namely the DB Super Pack 1, which adds a few new characters to the equation, some extra quests, a trainer and some nifty moves. Those happy feelings aside, we pretty much already rounded up all there is to the DLC with the previous sentence.

Straight off the bat it becomes clear that the content was already included in the original game, or at least one of the earlier updates, seeing the install size was only around 10MB, thus meaning you would just pay for an unlock key, rather than content that was just released. Nonetheless, this is a common practice done by many companies nowadays, thus we knew what to expect. That being said, when you dive back into the world of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 you’ll get two new characters, Cabba and Frost, which seem to be more popular in the newer Dragon Ball series, and you’ll also receive a new trainer which can be found in the overworld. Other than that, there will also be a new mentor, Hit, which adds a few fun training sessions to the mix.

Character-wise things may not be that expansive, the extra quests do add a bit of gameplay, not due to their longevity, but rather due to the difficulty of said missions. If you have been playing for quite some time, these will certainly be doable, but they still have a certain edge to them, making them proper DLC content for those who have been playing since the game’s release.

Of course new items and skills have been thrown into the mix as well, which is probably one of the most interesting reasons in combination with the new ‘parallel quests’ to dive back into the game, or freshen up your gameplay. Perhaps if you’re still on the fence of diving back into the game, after quitting not so long ago, then these additions might prove to be worth it.

Conclusion

The first Dragon Ball Xenoverse DLC package will certainly add a reasonable amount of fun and simple content for those who are still enthralled by the game, but it will probably not provide that much extra incentive for those who already quit the game to come back. Nonetheless, the price feels fair for the content you’re getting, even though most of it is rather short-lived. If you’re still actively playing and want some variation, this one might offer a bit of solace, if you stopped playing a long time ago and you’re looking for a heap of extra content, waiting for a discount on this package as well as future DLC packs may be the way to go.
