E3 2014 – Nintendo
We’ve seen some stellar games from Ubisoft, EA Games and many other developers. Now it’s time to see what games will become available for the Nintendo Wii U and the Nintendo 3DS handheld.
In Super Smash Brothers you will be able to use your own Mii to fight with. Don’t be a fool and think your characters will be lame and boring, they will be just as competitive as the other characters. The Mii Fighters will come in three different types. The Brawler is your average fighter that prefers fights up and personal, they will be using their bare hands to deal stunning blows. Their qualities are being fast and powerful meaning they can pack a punch. The Mii Swordfighters on the other hand are weapon masters as they remain calm while hunting their opponents with their sharp blades. Mii Gunners make use of high velocity weapons that can fire various different projectiles from a long range. Each of the three types can choose four out of twelve special moves, that’s a whole lot of moves spread across these characters. Additionally there will be new characters which you can fight with such as Elijah Wood and Ice-T. Super Smash Bros. is set to release for 3DS and Wii U in the summer, it will be the first game of the series that is coming to a handheld.
If you are familiar with the toy products that create a whole new experience when it comes down to gaming, such as Skylanders or Disney Infinity, you will immediately understand what the Amiibo toys from Nintendo will do. Every Amiibo figure has a special chip embedded which makes sure that every Wii U system will recognize the figure when you touch the gamepad with it. Once that is done, the characters will come to life in compatible games such as Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart 8.
Nintendo and Feel Good worked together to bring Yoshi’s Wooly World to life. However, it is not a sequel to Kirby’s Epic Yarn. The goal was to create a world of yarn, where the yarn will deliver new mechanics. Strands of yards was used as a core element in Kirby’s Epic Yarn but as Yoshi’s Wooly World is in 3D, having a single strand of yard was not impressive enough. Instead, those boring strands of yards get unraveled and get knitted up. There will also be a two-player co-op mode in Yoshi’s Wooly World, where two different colored Yoshi’s will appear. Both players can help each other out when it comes down to tough situations and advance to the next levels.
Eiji Aonuma explains that “in the earlier releases of the Legend of Zelda games, players got to explore a wide area, scrolling up, down, left and right.” With the new hardware that is constantly evolving in 3D, it became harder to ensure that players got the same feel when playing the Legend of Zelda games. The newest Legend of Zelda game for Wii U will launch somewhere in 2015.
The upcoming Dynasty Warrior game named Hyrule Warriors will include several core features on the original Legend of Zelda games. In Hyrule Warriors you can play a two-player mode by making use of the tv and gamepad. However it is not a split-screen experience. There will be several playable characters in Hyrule Warriors, such as Zelda obviously but also Link, Princess Zelda, Impa and Midna. Hyrule Warriors will be available on September 26, 2014.
Splatoon, an eight player 4vs4 online multiplayer action game is all about controlling territory. The idea is to paint the map with ink and the team which has the majority of the map covered in their ink, wins. You will be able to switch from a person to a squid, each having their own unique abilities. As a human, you can spray your ink but as a squid you can swim in your own colored ink and swim up walls super fast. Additionally, walking through your opponent’s ink will slow you down. This is a nice mixture of gameplay and will keep things interesting. You can use the GamePad to quickly look up and down but you can also use it as a mini-map. Splatoon is yet another title that will be launched in 2015.
And here are a few small announcements. Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is announced to be released in the holiday season of 2014. The remakes of the Nintendo DS games Pokémon Sapphire and Ruby, now dubbed as Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby will be launching November 21st, 2014. Bayonetta 2 has been announced exclusively for Wii U and will be available in October. Furthermore, the game will also include the first game bringing the entire Bayonetta universe in one nice little bundle. A new Kirby game, named Kirby and the Rainbow Curse will be launching in 2015. Xenoblade Chronicles X is also announced for 2015. Of course you can’t have a Nintendo E3 without announcing yet another Mario game! However, this time the player is able to create their own custom Mario courses in a game titled Mario Maker that will also launch in 2015.
Quite a few games have been announced but not many of those will be launching in 2014. I’m mostly looking forward to the remastered Pokémon games for 3DS but that is just me.. What are you looking forward to?
