It’s probably not that farfetched to state that pretty much everybody would like to have superpowers, be it for good, evil or just messing around, it would make our day-to-day lives so much easier. That being said, we live in a world where superheroes are only substance for stories, often to make people feel good about themselves one way or another. Then again, the world Electra Woman & Dyna Girl live in is riddled with superheroes, but they seem to be bottom of the barrel when it comes to their actual superpowers, namely, none.

Electra Woman And Dyna Girl Banner

Superhero-wannabes Electra Woman (Grace Helbig) and Dyna Girl (Hannah Hart) are in a slump, as they are not being recognized by the general public, and haven’t done any hero work in quite some time. Things get even worse when another hero gets signed by the CMM (Creative Masked Management) to be their new poster-girl, seemingly just because of her looks. When sending home their annoying neighbor, who constantly belittles them and calles them fake heroes, both heroes head out to the local convenience store and encounter a robbery in progress. When the robbers start filming, Dyna girl uses her special ‘suction’ weapon to dispose of one of the goons’ gun, but she accidentally rips his arm off. After confiscating the phone, and uploading the clip themselves, they head home contemplating their next moves.

Lori (Electra Woman) is psyched when she gets called by the CMM, to come over to Los Angeles as they have an offer for both heroines. Judy (Dyna Girl) has her doubts about the offer, as she wants to stay her good old fashioned self. Nonetheless, they decide to head over to the big city and see what Dan Dixon (Andy Buckley), the manager of the company, has to offer. In mere moments it becomes clear that Dan simply wants to use them as he sees fit, while changing their looks and weapons, and directing their every move. When Dyna Girl is deemed the sidekick and Electra Woman is getting too enveloped in the attention she’s getting, trouble’s brewing between both girls. When suddenly a super-villain arrives on the scene, things are bound to get out of hand.

Electra Woman And Dyna Girl 1

Seeing this movie is rather short, things happen in rapid succession of one another but the creators still make it a priority that the bond between Lori and Judy is properly portrayed. The movie revolves a bit around slapstick humor, some action sequences and of course, the most important part, the trip to Los Angeles, where Lori and Judy come to a disagreement of how things are handled. Other than that, this movie keeps things relatively simple.

When you first hear that the cast pretty much revolves around two ‘YouTube’ celebrities, one doesn’t get his hopes up of being able to see topnotch acting. Perhaps because the bar was set extremely low in our minds, or simply because both girls actually are able to perform on the big screen, things turned out to be a very pleasant experience. Overall, seeing it’s pretty much about the two girls, they carried the movie from start to finish, in a lighthearted and witty fashion. The side characters were perhaps not always on par with the lead actresses, they did a sturdy job of keeping the rest of the scenes together.

Electra Woman And Dyna Girl 2

For a movie that only spans around 78 minutes, there’s a decent amount of extras to be found on this DVD release. While most of the features are rather short and simple, they add another layer to the movie, as some don’t simply provide some extra information, but were also properly acted out, like the inside view of CMM or the girls selling their old car. Other features are along the lines of a making of, or simple snippets that revolve around the flick itself.

Conclusion

Electra Woman and Dyna Girl was actually a pleasant surprise as a lighthearted superhero movie. Don’t expect too much plot wise, and you’ll have yourself a very enjoyable movie for a slow evening. A simplistic feelgood movie with a superhero theme, that is actually all about being heroes without having actual powers. Cliché? Perhaps. Entertaining? Surprisingly so.
