Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight release date announced
Last month we were able to announce that another Etrian Odyssey game will join the JRPG ranks somewhere early 2016. Today, NIS America announced that Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight will be releasing in Europe on 12 February 2016 for Nintendo 3DS as both a digital and physical version.
Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight is essentially two games in one. The first being a Nintendo 3DS update to Etrian Odyssey® 2: Heroes of Lagaard, which was originally released on Nintendo DS, with new dungeon layouts, new graphics and additional system improvements. The second game is the Untold portion of Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight. It offers a brand new story mode with a fixed party, voiced dialogue and animated cutscenes. Much like Persona Q, the Untold portion of the game offers a strong focus on characters and their interactions as the bittersweet tale of the Fafnir Knight and Princess Arianna unfolds as they venture through the ruins of Ginnungagap and the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, accompanied with the hero Flavio and two other mysterious adventurers, Bertrand and Chloe.
Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight has a series of key features that come back from previous games:
- Creatures of Comfort: Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold has been refined over the course of seven iterations of the game which allowed for vastly improved game systems which makes Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold easily approachable for beginners while remaining challenging for die-hard veterans of the series.
- Brand new additions: Not seen before in any of the iterations of Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold is the brand new characters called the Fafnir. The Fafnir is only available in the game’s Story mode and offers players the ability to transform into a beastly demonic form to enhance attributes and abilities which has the potential to turn a losing battle into a victorious one. Additionally, changes were made to the Grimoire stone system, offering players the ability to customize their entire party by allowing members to use abilities from different classes.
- Bring a Blanket: As seen in Etrian Odyssey® 2 Untold: The Millennium Girl and Persona Q, players can choose Picnic mode for a low-difficulty experience in addition to the normal difficulty. Veterans amongst players can choose Expert mode for a more punishing playthrough.
