Evil Dead: The Game was released last year for all major platforms and we simply loved this asymmetrical multiplayer game. The game included all the best components from the genre and its source material, and it also allowed for decent crossplay functionalities. Over the course of a year, a lot of new DLC was included, as well as a new mode and other content. We were lucky enough to get a copy of the Game of the Year Edition, and we found ourselves covered in blood once again while we tried to survive the onslaught of the Kandarian Demon and its horde of Deadites. As the game has remained pretty much the same since our original review, except for the new DLC and a few other additions, we will mainly be covering the relevancy of this Game of the Year Edition.

As we originally played the game on PC, we now were able to try out Evil Dead on PS5. The game runs buttery smooth on the next-gen console, and we honestly feel as if it never looked better now that we played it on the big screen. You’ll still be treated to the same content as on PC, which means you’re either going up against the Kandarian Demon together with a few other survivors or you can control the forces of evil as well. The game allows you to play against AI or you can put your skills to the test when playing against other players. Of course, with games such as this, a session can be heavily influenced by people leaving or connection issues. We did experience a few crashes when the host(s) kept leaving, significantly slowing down our gaming sessions.

There is a lot of DLC to explore when picking up the Game of the Year Edition, but the content here is completely optional, as you can easily get by if you just own the base game. That being said, the DLC included in the bundle is a lot of fun, and it does provide you with fun cosmetics and new characters. On top of that, a Splatter Royale mode has been added since we last took a closer look at the game, and this is basically a battle royale mode for up to 40 players. This does add a bit more content to the mix, especially for players who are looking to play shorter matches.

Conclusion

Evil Dead: The Game – Game of the Year Edition is a worthy investment if you’re looking for some multiplayer action with decent cross-platform support. We loved the interesting DLC included in this bundle, but those not interested in that many cosmetic items can still opt to play the standard version of the game, and still have a lot of fun. As stated in our original review, this game is absolutely awesome and a great addition to the Evil Dead franchise. We hope the game keeps receiving new content, as this might just be one of the best asymmetrical multiplayer games out there.
