It’s not that hard to assume that many of our younger readers probably never heard of the movie Fatal Attraction, which starred Michael Douglas, but don’t worry, that’s not why we’re here today. Today we have the chance to present you our opinion of the fourteenth issue of Game Over, which of course stars the unnamed hero who can’t catch a break. If you were wondering if he for once is able to get a happy ‘game over’, we can immediately answer that with a resounding no. Misfortune, pain and slapstick humor is what this series is all about.

Again there’s no real story to be found in this album of the series, yet there’s a clear pattern to be found in this one. Many of the short gags revolve around transformation, be it of the enemy monsters that are out to stomp our hero in the head, or kidnap the princess, or be it to transform himself in something stealthy, extremely strong or weird. Not only is this a driving point for this album, this one also revolves around the princess dying a lot, rather than the hero himself. Both prove to be very witty alternatives for the other albums. This shows that Midam and Benz still have a few tricks up their sleeves. Perhaps we’ll see more issues with a certain topic or theme in the future, albeit without any proper written dialogues.

As always, things still remain fairly predictable, but some of these gags ended up being fairly surprising, which gave them a small extra edge. Overall things move very fast, but ever so often we get treated to a gag that spans two pages.

Illustrations by Midam and Adam remain consistent with the previous issues, and thus you’ll be treated to very comical pictures, where the characters are the stars, as the backgrounds are often a bit bland. Thanks to the additional bland coloring by BenBK, the series gets an ‘old school’ feeling.

Conclusion

Game Over #14 Fatal Attraction was a fun improvement compared to the previous album, where one topic stood out, and where our unlucky hero finally was able to share his pain with someone else. If you’re into short gags, fairly childish/simplistic humor, this one will provide you with something to pass the time during your next short break.
