With a new generation of consoles, also comes the process of buying new peripherals for said consoles. Older headsets often don’t work on the new hardware, and thus the search for a new one begins. We recently took a closer look at Thrustmaster’s update for their T.Racing Scuderia Ferrari Edition headset. This was a model that got released for the previous consoles, as well as PC users. Now, we get to take a look at a real next-gen headset, namely Gioteck’s TX50. We tried out the PS5 version of the headset and we quite enjoyed it.

Design

Upon opening the half-transparent box of the PS5 version of the TX50, we were greeted with a bulky headset, which is a common sight. What is uncommon, however, are the diamond-shaped ear cups of the TX50. This makes for a very original and unique design that makes this device stand out from the competition. The PlayStation 5 version has white and black as its main color components, with a few blue finishing touches thrown in the mix. You can also clearly see the padding in the headband and the brand name and logo on top of said headband. Other smaller touches are the gridded and perforated exterior of the ear cups’ centers, the control box on the braided cable and the fairly long microphone arm.

Comfort

Even with the somewhat untraditional ear cup design, the headset is very comfortable. There is ample padding in the interior of both ear cups and the headband has two thick pieces of padding as well. Even though this may be considered an over-ear headset, it might not be wide enough to cover everyone’s ears. The padding does block out some of the environmental sounds, but you will not be disconnected from the world around you. This is a matter of personal preference, but it does allow those who want to have their game audio via TV and the chat via headset to have that option available for them, without blocking out all of the sound coming from the TV.

The device itself is actually quite light and doesn’t get too heavy during longer gaming sessions. We reckon this is due to the somewhat lighter plastic used for the general frame of the headset. Even so, the package as a whole feels quite qualitative. The bendy microphone arm is also a nice touch, as you can properly position it this way.

Specs

  • Tacticle rubber finish
  • 50mm high impact drivers
  • Robust build quality
  • Alacantra cushioning
  • Push/Pull instant mute
  • Next-gen editions available for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Overview

As mentioned above, we tried out the PlayStation oriented device, which includes functionalities for the PlayStation 5, but also the different PlayStation 4 models and PC (and some other devices with a standard 3.5mm plug). We simply had to plug the 3.5mm jack into our new DualSense controller and the PS5 did the rest for us. Audio and mic input was immediately set to the headset, but of course, when tinkering with the settings, you can also opt to only hear the chat via the headset.

The cable might not be extremely long for PC setups but when playing on the PS5, the length is more than enough as you have it plugged into the controller. The small control box that is incorporated in the cable allows you to do two things, namely regulate the volume and (un)mute your microphone. The control box does not have any LEDs embedded into it and thus works with simple colored pieces of plastic that become visible when muting (red) or unmuting (green).

We very much enjoyed the audio quality of this ‘cheaper’ headset for the next generation. While not on par with a €/$200 device, the TX50 packs a proper punch. Audio is clear, for both gaming and watching your favorite series and movies. Even though some companies have already better drivers than the 50mm ones in this device, you’ll still have a great experience, especially considering the asking price of Gioteck’s headset.

Conclusion

Gioteck’s TX50 is a very nice and affordable headset for the next generation. While of course, it does not have the same sound quality as a device four times the TX50’s price, the audio quality was great for a proper gaming experience. We enjoyed the comfort the device brought, as well as its unique design. If you have a limited budget and still want something that has premium quality, then we suggest looking into this one.
