Hidden Through Time – Review
Everyone knows the books of ‘Where’s Wally’ or ‘Waldo’, where you need to find the guy with the striped shirt in a huge crowd. For some, this might be a bit overwhelming, but then this game comes into play. Before we had Hidden Folks, where you had to find several objects in a black and white setting and today we are able to go through the different worlds of Hidden Through Time. Clad in colors and cute graphics, it’s a way to ease your mind and train those seeking skills.
Story
There isn’t any story value linked to this game, except the fact that you’re passing through several eras of history, finding your way through crowds of people or other objects to find that one specific item on your to-do list. In a way, it would have been nice if there was at least some narrative linked, to spice things up a bit, but the game just serves perfectly to have a small break from work and try to focus on cute images instead of the problems the world faces now.
Graphics
Compared to the huge games these days where the graphics are so amazing and realistic, this game tends to go back to a really simple but cute way of drawing. You’ll be venturing through several hand-drawn environments where you have to find the smallest of items or some adorable little variations of stickmen. Each era has its own characteristics, but the similarities still show and make it really fun to dive from one world into another as you can explore new sprites.
Sound
With this game, it’s only natural that the music is more soothing rather than up-tempo. You will emerge into these different worlds and you’ll try to find all of the items on the to-do list and with some being harder to find than others, getting an adrenaline-kick is not something you want to have. Next to the tranquil tunes that will leave your speakers, Hidden Through Time also offers a variety of sound effects that just increases the cute factor even more. It really gives the game that special touch and will leave you smiling while searching for the next object.
Gameplay
Hidden Through Time is a hide and seek game where you need to find several items on an interactive map. You start with the stone age, or a cute interpretation of it at least, and go all the way to Ancient Egypt and even the Middle Age. Each level will have its own to-do list you need to complete, and of course, some are easier to find than others. To assist you, each item has a short cryptic description on where to find this on the map and it certainly is a big help. If you think you have found something, just click on it and you’ll know soon enough if you were right or not. There isn’t any penalty when clicking on faulty things so go nuts.
Some of these items are hidden inside buildings or other housing, they can be partly hidden behind other elements or move around. There isn’t any time pressure to find the different objects, but you do need a certain amount found before you’re able to go to a new level. This also means that you don’t have to find all items on a certain level, so you can just continue if you have found enough in previous levels.
There isn’t much more to the game gameplay-wise, but there are online possibilities for you to explore. First of all, you can create your own maps from scratch thanks to the editor. Let your imagination go wild, as you can practically make the same levels as the developers. You can use anything, put in moving elements or hide everything wherever you want. If your masterpiece is ready, you can then push it to the clouds, where everyone can enjoy your creation. It might be best to keep this in mind, to create something fun and feasible so others can enjoy it and rate your map positively. Of course, if creating yourself isn’t your forte, you can just enjoy the content others put out there. Thanks to this option, the content is endless and you’ll be able to enjoy it for a longer time.
Conclusion
Hidden Through Time will take you on a journey through several eras, making it fun and interactive both for kids as grown-ups. The graphics are adorable and the music will make you at ease, letting all the stress of the day slip away. Although the provided content is fun and engaging, it isn’t endless. This is where the online possibility comes into play, giving you the opportunity to create and enjoy the creative dreams of others.
