Metal Gear Solid HD Collection – Review
After Years of anxious waiting both Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance are finally getting a rerelease on PS Vita. As everyone may already know, these games are classics amongst the classics., and I’m glad they finally got remastered. I say both because Metal gear solid: Peacewalker is missing from the vita collection, which is a bummer because it was available on the PS3 and Xbox360 collection.
On vita these games are a treat for the eye thanks to the gorgeous remastering process done by Konami. Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece hasn’t lost any of its charm over the past years. The backgrounds have much more detail compared to the PS2 versions . The controls are great for a port to the Vita. The controls are pretty much the same as the PS2 version, for new players all the buttons are explained in the manual. But a change was made for equipping items and weapons. This is now done through the touchscreen, which is, believe it or not, actually very handy. Also the back touchscreen is used to use your knife on an enemy, to take one step left or right when in first person view or to look around a corner when you’re standing with your back against it.
If you’re crazy about Metal Gear and you’ve bought the PS3 and the Vita version, you can transfer you’re savegames between your two consoles. So you can play on your Vita while sitting in the train. And when you get home you can transfer your savegame to your PS3 system and continue playing where you stopped on the Vita. And for all the trophy whores out there, yes when you got a trophy on your Vita and you start the savegame on your PS3 you’ll also get the trophy there. This because the two games have the same trophies but both have a seperate Trophy list.
I played both games on ps2 and I am glad I got the chance to replay them in HD. After all these years I didn’t know the complete storyline anymore, but this fellow changed it all and I got the opportunity to refresh my memory. Even the game experience is still awesome and fresh (seeing when the original was release). So if you played them before go get this version and replay them, you’ll love it. If you never played them before, shame on you!!! GO BUY THE GAME RIGHT NOW OR THE PITS OF HELL WILL ALL ENGULF YOU!!! These games should belong in every gamer’s closet.
