Mortal Kombat 11 brings back Friendships as a fun twist on the classic Fatalities
Newer players might not be aware of this, but there was a time when Mortal Kombat was especially controversial. The cause of concern, usually coming from 90s parents watching their wee little ones engage in bloody battles on screen, was mostly directed at the brutal Fatalities so iconic for the franchise. Ripping out somebody’s spine is hardly family-friendly entertainment after all. That’s where Friendships came in, an alternative finishing move introduced in Mortal Kombat II to poke fun at this controversy. They weren’t present in a lot of future games besides a reference here or there, but the devs are bringing these hilarious animations back for Mortal Kombat 11. In a free content update dropping on May 26, Friendships will be introduced as a game mechanic, along with four new arenas becoming available. On the same date Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath will be released in digital stores, a DLC containing new story elements and characters.
