Graphics

Although this game looks like it actually wants to be a 3D game, the 2D graphics have a certain charm to them. From an artistic point of view, we need to add that the game’s characters and backgrounds are beautifully drawn and painted. Without the imagination of the lead artist, it is almost impossible to make such a vibrant yet gloomy world. Another great aspect is that they made sure that the world matches the sentimental value of the storyline.

Sound

The sound is maybe the worst part of the game. Not that it is bad or anything, it only lacks a lot compared to the other aspects of the game. The sound also fits the sentimental value but gets repetitive fast, there is no use of voice acting besides a bit of mumbling and there are only some environmental sounds to make it not completely bland.

Gameplay

My Brother Rabbit is a hidden objects and puzzle game which lets you play in a surreal environment. Most of the time in-between the cutscenes you reside in a world full of little challenges. Here the brother is visualized as the rabbit and the sister as the flower. Due to an almost deadly illness, the parents are constantly away searching for treatment, the two siblings are left mostly on their own and you try to fix her throughout the world of imagination.

You start off in the rabbit hole where you need to find a way out to get to the sick flower. Here you need to click on the rabbit to acquire your first hidden object game and need to search for a bottle filled with a red fluid. With this challenge, they explain how everything works. You’ll learn that every machine, piece of the world or some objects need to be completed. The missing parts of those are spread around the area and need to be found by you.

Each area is divided into a few segments if you are looking for certain objects you have a blue roster on top of your screen where you can see how many you have already collected. If this roster turns grey, you can’t find any more of those objects in that particular segment.

Not every object is easy to retrieve, so in a kind of way, everything you do and complete will be in a certain order. Which unlocks more and more places or gives you more tools to get by the obstruction in front of the object.

Last but not least if you found all the hidden objects of a set, you’ll gain access to a minigame. This you need to complete in order to complete the full area. In these minigames, you’ll find yourself doing recognizable minigames from the last decades. The full area will be completed if every puzzle is done, of course.  After each completed area you’ll get a cutscene of the story and how the two of you managed to conquer the challenges and could progress to the next area.

Conclusion

My Brother Rabbit is as well fun as very emotional. The weakest points of the game are the duration and the sound as this game can easily be played through in under six hours. When we look at the rest of the game we are star struck. The dual story is brought in a charming, emotional yet heart-warming manner. They managed very well to bring up such a delicate topic, which does not make the game or storyline feel too heavy.
