NASA’s Unexplained Files: Season 2 & 3 (DVD) – Series Review
Mankind was able to achieve some great things, but not everything is already discovered or answered. One of the biggest questions is if there is extra-terrestrial life. Up until today, there wasn’t any clear proof if there is actually another lifeform out there, or was there? In these two seasons, NASA tries to explain and answer some of the weird events that have occurred the past few years. Are you ready to dive into files that are rather supernatural?
Discovery Channel is known for its documentaries and ‘NASA’s Unexplained Files’ was aired. Several episodes were on the channel and now they’re available on DVD. Both season 2 and 3 have four separate parts to watch, each explaining several cases where some strange abnormal events or unexplainable mysteries took place. Each of the items that are in an episode are explained and guided with some footage, sometimes real or re-enacted. The narrator is easy to listen to and will give you some details about the incident while talking through the several parts, making it one nice whole. The multiple experts that are invited to give their opinion or their findings on some of the incidents to make sure that all of the different aspects or views for a specific situation are discussed. This also gives a nice overview of the thinking process that some of the files required.
The subjects in these episodes aren’t all about other lifeforms but also about the moon and other planets of this solar system. Also, some of the files are also about abnormalities that occurred on Earth or during space missions. If you were hoping on some intel about aliens or UFOs, you won’t be that thrilled to wrestle yourself through the seasons.
As these episodes are plucked from television, each of them have a similar or the same intro. This makes it rather tedious to watch them after each other, as it makes you lose your interest. There are several different cases per episode and if you were hoping to find some answers, you might be getting a rather cold shower. Every phenomenon is tackled and there are several experts that are giving their opinion on the matter, but this doesn’t mean that every event is actually solved. A lot of the times some of the information is indecisive, some evidence is missing or some of the authorities are just not giving any intel. This means that you’re actually still in the dark. Ok, you have some extra details about some of the incidents that occurred, but it doesn’t have much use if you’re left with an unclear answer. Also, as there are multiple short events per episode and because a lot of the content has an unsure conclusion, it kind of feels like the producers just wanted to fill some episodes just to have them. After having some unsolved issues, you kind of lose your interest as there aren’t any answers anyway. Some of the events are unravelled of course, like if the moon is hollow or not or if the moon landing was real, but this doesn’t really make up for the other content.
As this is a documentary, it is normal that there aren’t any extras although it would have been nice. Maybe a teaser for the upcoming season or an overview of the several subjects that have been discussed would have been an idea, as there are a lot of mysteries that are being addressed, which makes it easy to forget.
Conclusion
If you are hoping to learn something more about extra-terrestrial life, other planets and what not, you’ll get a cold shower. A lot of the episodes contain unsolved mysteries and although there are some that are solved, it doesn’t help the feeling you’re just wasting your time. The only thing you know for certain is that there are some wild theories out there and that there are certain authorities that withhold information until today. Hopefully we will one day know the truth behind the mysteries and not just some ‘maybe’ stories.
