An insult can be a rather crude remark, a snide statement or a poetic reflection. As Winston Churchill once stated: Tact is telling someone to go to hell and making them look forward to the trip. Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator works like that. In a sense. It’s all about making sure the opponent gets flustered by making all sorts of weird, funny remarks that border on racially and emotionally insensitive all the while enjoying every single minute of it.

Story

In Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator, there’s not just the one story to carry the main game. Every character has his or her own flaws and those are highlighted in the character bios of every character. This creates a world in which those same characters are people with all their insecurities are laid bare for all to see. This also makes it so they are very relatable because everyone is guilty of having at least one pet peeve or a weakness that once touched upon making them feel very, very uncomfortable. The characters in Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator don’t even have such weird over the top insecurities. It’s all ‘minor’ stuff, like where they came from socially speaking, or their sense of fashion or the fact they can’t keep up with the times. It says a lot about the writers that they’ve been able to make it seem like they could be real people.

Graphics

Aesthetically, Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator is very intriguing. It has this cartoony, blocky artwork that works perfectly in its crudeness. There aren’t many animations, but the ones in it are quite funny. The characters squint in agony every time they take damage and the lip synch is actually quite decent. The decors in which the characters do battle are also a throwback to pop culture, like the shop where the ‘dead parrot’ was sold, or the train section straight from a Miss Marple novel.

Sound

It has to be said that the audio engineering in Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator is really, really good. Astounding voice acting and it all sounds perfectly natural no matter which sentence you build, no matter how convoluted they may be. They don’t sound like it’s a computer just reading the sections and putting them together with weird short breaks in between the sections. They are all full sentences that work in perfect symbiosis with the writing. The writers made the characters, even though they are caricatures feel like actual people. It almost makes you feel bad when you call them something nasty.

Gameplay

Oh…Sir!! The Insult Simulator is a simulation game. It’s all about grammatically reducing the enemy to rubble. How this is done is ingenious in its simplicity. There’s a couple of words/parts of sentences you and your enemy can choose from. Every time someone uses one option, it dissappears. So you can’t use them anymore if your enemy uses it. If you can’t find the right option that suits your sentence or your taste, you can use the square button to open a menu to choose from, giving you two extra choices. These are random and can be a curse or a blessing. Pressing L1 or R1 uses either one of them. If you press Square again, you sip your tea and the words get refreshed, giving you two extra. This can be done only once per fight. Pressing Circle ends your sentence.

Every sentence that’s finished damages your enemy and once their life points drop down to zero, you win the match. There are ways to really damage your opponent. It lies in the character bio. There’s a small text explaining the characters, that if read carefully will expose the characters flaws. Hitting those notes in a sentence will do some serious damage and will stop an opponent in their vocal tracks. Using a subject several times in a row will give you a multiplier every time you use a word or part of a sentence again. However all these tactics can be used against you. You can be silenced with a good insult and they too can use the multiplier against you if they use a term a second time or third time.

Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator is both a party game, with couch co-op being a possibility. If you don’t want to insult people that are in punching range, then you can also go for an online shouting match. Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator can be quite a tactical game in the vein of chess. Will you sacrifice a turn to make sure they don’t use a word or part of a sentence or will you go for a word that will cement your sentence and your victory. It’s weighing and balancing that make the game so addicting.

Conclusion

Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator is all about reducing your opponent to a small pile of misery and being as rude as possible. It’s perfectly priced and for a game that started off with little confidence of the team behind it. Oh… Sir!! The Insult Simulator has blown up to a great game that’s polished and fun to play, be it online or with friends on the couch. You might want to upgrade your insurance in case tables get flipped or controllers tossed about.

Q

First game ever was Crash Bandicoot 3 Warped, ever since then, gaming has been something that I've gravitated to. Reading's fun but not as interactive. Always up for a bout of online multiplayer. If that multiplayer is co-op. So if you are up for a friendly co-op session, hit me up. Rahenik's the name to search on PSN.
