Quo Vadis, Aida? – Soon to be released on DVD!
Quo Vadis, Aida? is an impressive Bosnian war film by Jasmila Žbanić, which portrays a fictitious account of the massacre in Srebrenica.
Bosnia, July 1995. Aida (Jasna Đuričić) works in Srebrenica at the Dutch UN base as a translator for the United Nations. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family and 20,000 other Bosnian Muslims are looking for a safe shelter in the UN camp. As an insider to the negotiations Aida has access to crucial information that she needs to interpret. Until then, Aida is sure the UN would protect her, but as the chaos deepens, she desperately tries to save her family and fellow citizens by herself. Eventually, more than 8,000 Bosnian refugees are killed during the dramatic evacuation of the refugees.
Quo Vadis, Aida? was nominated for an Oscar in the category Best Foreign Language Film (for Bosnia-Herzegovina) and selected for the Official Competition of the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals. The film won several prestigious awards, including the Audience Award at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) and the Grand Jury Award at Movies that Matter.
