Red Goddess announced
Red Goddess is a nonlinear side-scrolling platformer, developed by the Spain based indie game development studio Yanim Studio. The studio is primarily known for its high-end character animation and stunning visual effects that we can find in games such as Deadlight and Risen. According to the studio, Red Goddess isn’t just any game – it’s unique.
Divine, a troubled deity, is having trouble with her past. A mysterious force is tearing her apart, destroying her mind, her soul and ultimately her body. To stop this unknown force from destroying her altogether, she decides to venture on a journey through her own subconscious mind – a planet thriving with many natural elements. The narrator of Red Goddess will be leading the player. However, this narrator is both mysterious and dangerous as he knows all of the secrets of Divine’s past. Secrets she may not even remember herself and he does not want her to know any of them.
The gameplay of Red Goddess can be summed up in a few points:
- Exploration: you get to explore a mysterious planet that is dominated by the subconscious mind of the main character, namely the narrator who will try to prevent you from entering zones.
- Character ball gameplay: the main character exists of two halves: Rage and Fear and you may only choose one. The other half will be inactive and appear as a ball – hence the character ball gameplay wording.
- Unlock special powers: the player can unlock new skills and enter new zones by finding and collecting memory crystals. These new skills can range from double jump to flying to gaining the ability to slow down time, creating a slow motion effect.
- Possession and movement: you have the power to not only move but also possess elements on the planet to further unravel the past of the main character
- Character switch: throughout the game you can switch to one of three characters so that you may use their fighting abilities effectively, namely Divine, Fear and Rage.
Red Goddess has been successfully funded through KickStarter and has been Greenlit. This unique adventurous side-scrolling platformer will find its way to PC, Linux, PS4 and Wii U in February 2015.
