Stellar Blade x NieR: Automata DLC – Review
Stellar Blade arguably made headlines thanks to its busty protagonist, EVE, but it also proved its worth as a great action title. We loved the experience and found ourselves returning to the game once or twice over the course of the last year, and we found it a shame no DLC was released so far. We were quite excited when we learned about the NieR: Automata DLC, as it would place two of our favorite titles together. Sadly, this new DLC turned out to be a cosmetic bundle first and foremost. Welcome to probably the shortest review on the site, namely that of the Stellar Blade x NieR: Automata DLC.
As stated in the introduction, the NieR: Automata DLC for Stellar Blade is in essence a fancy cosmetic bundle. Upon purchase, you will not immediately unlock all the cosmetics on offer, as you’ll basically have to go on a scavenge hunt for them. You’ll first have to play up until you unlock the Wasteland, which is only a few hours into the game, depending on how much you explored beforehand. After this, you’ll have to find Emil’s shop in the wasteland, and you’ll have to be able to stop him in his tracks by shooting him. When doing so, you’ll unlock the requirements to start hunting for ‘Tears’ with the hints Emil provides. It’s a fun little scavenge hunt, but it might also frustrate players who simply want to dress up EVE in their favorite outfits without the hassle of going out in areas they may have already cleared several times before. We personally didn’t mind having to actually play the game in order to unlock the new outfits and other cosmetics. The bundle includes new outfits, hairstyles, and an accessory for EVE, but also a cosmetic for Adam, Lily, and your drone.
Conclusion
It’s hard to accurately score this DLC bundle, as it simply depends on whether the potential buyer is interested in the NieR: Automata costumes in the first place. We personally enjoyed going out in the wilderness to find Tears to gradually unlock the items included in this DLC. Even so, we can understand players who have already beaten the game multiple times to find no incentive to return to the Stellar Blade universe to unlock a few cosmetics. The content itself is nice, but perhaps a bit expensive for what it eventually is.
