We can honestly say that the Arrowverse is slowly collapsing. With the Arrow series already being finished, it was only a matter of time before others would follow suit. With Batwoman canceled after three seasons, and the decline in popularity of other shows, it was only a matter of time before Supergirl also suffered the same fate. That being said, we also concluded that the quality of Supergirl was very much declining, and the show was also getting extremely political. We could even go as far as state that we didn’t very much enjoy the fifth season of the series anymore. Now, we were hoping to see a grand memorable finale to wrap things up, but we were ultimately treated to more of the same.

The final season of Supergirl revolves around the ‘Super Friends’ trying to stop Lex Luthor’s (Jon Cryer) diabolical plan. At first, it seems the group has Lex on the ropes, but sadly, things get turned around when he manages to banish Kara (Melissa Benoist) to the Phantom Zone. The villain does get arrested, but soon after he finds himself a free man again, and now the troupe of superheroes needs to focus on getting Kara out of Phantom Zone, as well as focus on Luthor’s sneaky ploys.

In terms of flow and pacing, not that much has changed when it comes to the last season. The show still has a significant amount of filler content, which often feels dragged out and useless for the story, as well as loads of content revolving around relationships. We do understand that viewers love to see their favorite characters evolve and even lead happy lives, but it just feels like the focus is often on other things than the actual ‘superhero business’. Once again, the quality of the show would be increased tenfold if the season was only half its current length. Of course, there were several items to wrap up, but we feel like a lot of content could simply be cut.

The cast members are already well-cemented in their roles and there are no significant changes when it comes to the overall roster. Jon Cryer, however, will be featured heavily as this universe’s version of Lex Luthor. We can honestly say that Cryer presented the viewers with an interesting take on the iconic villain, and we did love the fact that the show chose this villain to be the series’ last. Other than that, you can expect the same viewing experience as you have had during the course of the previous seasons.

Even though we had our issues with the flow and the topics of the show from time to time, we were actually quite sad to see that the Blu-ray version of the final season only comes with one significant special feature. This extra is dubbed ‘A Farewell Tribute to Supergirl’, and it shows different cast members discussing how they experienced the show and what they’ll miss about it. This was actually quite fun to watch, and it was also amusing to see the group dynamic. Other than that, some episodes come with the option to view deleted scenes, but this is pretty much a standard bonus feature for most shows.

Conclusion

Supergirl: Season 6 basically offered more of the same we saw during the last season(s). The show was slowly declining, turning into a rather dull and political affair. Of course, the show still has a few highlights and memorable moments, but for the most part, we are glad that the show wrapped things up. With a fairly satisfying ending, there isn’t that much more we could want. That being said, we would have loved it if this season was only around ten episodes, rather than dragging things out over the course of twenty episodes.
