The Big Bang Theory: Season 7 (DVD) – Series Review
Fans of Sheldon, Leonard, Raj and Howard will be pleased with another DVD compilation that allows us to follow the lives of our favourite geeks. We can once again join in in the crazy circumstances they end up in and see how they deal with what comes their way. Who loved them before, will love them even more now. But if you haven’t enjoyed it so far, there’s no point to hope this season would be any different and change your liking.
When reflecting upon these episodes, one can feel how the characters grow over time (excluding Sheldon of course) and it is remarkable how their friendships become stronger even now. It’s like they are all given more depth and become more… grown up. Sometimes gets you feeling nostalgic for those classic nerds we met in the pilot, to be honest.
So have there been many changes in order to keep the show fresh? Yes. And no. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is still Sheldon and will forever most likely remain Sheldon, which is something that might, no matter how lovable, get a little old for the viewers. However, admit it, TBBT would be nothing without him and his quirkiness. In season 7, he seems to be the cause of most kerfuffles and even with his already familiar personality, he draws the attention in new ways still. We all know he carries the show and is the most developable of characters, so all in all, it’s nice to see a bit more of him. Sheldon and Amy (Mayim Bialik) aka Shamy on the other hand are still going strong, with not much moving forward – to Amy’s continuous disappointment. They’re as awkward as ever and Sheldon might have something to do with that. But there is hope after watching this season, you’ll be astonished! What an actor though, right? In-cre-di-ble.
Leonard (Jonny Galecki) has returned home from his expedition and it feels like his relationship with Penny (Kaley Cuoco) is stronger than ever before. If only her acting career would move forward, there wouldn’t be any hardship at all amongst these lovebirds. Raj (Kunal Nayyar) can now talk to women when sober all of the sudden but is still hung up on his break up with Lucy. You’d think finding a new girlfriend is a piece of cake now as there should be plenty of girls who are looking for their sweet-talkin’, sensitive and rather handsome other half. But as we all now Rajesh and what goes on in his mind, it might have been better for his love life not to be able to directly talk to women. In Howard’s (Simon Helberg) and Bernadette’s (Melissa Rauch) marriage, not everything is always swell, but hey, in what marriage is it? Howie gets another job offer that Bernie isn’t very happy about and at the same time, he is doing his best to get his father-in-law to like him better and forever is in a relationship with his mother as much as his wife.
Also Will Wheaton, Bob Newhart (Professor Proton) and James Earl Jones will be joining in.
On a sadder note, you might have heard about the passing away of Carol Ann Susi, Howard’s loud-mouth mother who we never saw but heard so well and only with lending her voice to the show, was still an entire character who we all became fond of hearing (about). May Bernadette copy that shouting in your honor for many more seasons to come. During the 7th season not only was the 8th announced but also confirmation was given for 2 more after that one, so we can be certain that we’ll get to enjoy this crazy bunch for quite some more.
Conclusion
Even after so many episodes, the producers still manage to get our laughs on; quite an accomplishment I would say! But of course the novelty wears off after a couple of seasons and it is normal that things become less funny for the viewer than they were at the start. But not considerably. And actually not at all. Let’s be honest, it’s still hilarious. The only thing that sometimes gets a little frustrating is that our main man has all this potential of being a tad less robot and a bit more human so please-pretty-please just develop his character a little.
This opinion about Sheldon’s emotionlessness being the only thing one can bring out as a less-awesome side, you should definitely get to watching if you haven’t yet! Not only did Warner bring out the 7th season 24-episodes-on-3-DVDs compilation but also unleashed a DVD box with the first 6 seasons. That’s 19 DVDs of “*knock knock knock* Penny *knock knock knock* Penny *knock knock knock* Penny”-love right there.
Oh and in case you were wondering… the elevator is still out of order.
