The story of Louis de Richet is finally getting its finale with this last episode of The Council. In Checkmate, you are going to see the end of your path, the conclusion of the struggles and how everything fits together. Don’t forget you got some new tricks up your sleeve as well.

In this last episode, the final battle has begun. With your new background, new discoveries and mysterious powers, you have to fulfill your tasks in the mansion and prepare for the confrontation during the conference. How you do this is completely up to you but be sure that every decision you make or have made in the past will have its influence in this part. If you’ve played the previous episode, you will already be stunned by the turn of events, but the last one will blow your mind.

Just like in the previous episode, the focus is more on the story than on actual puzzles. Yes, you have to run around and talk to people to get your objectives, and a lot of talking is involved here. You need to use all your knowledge from the past few episodes to fulfill your task, while at a later stage it’s a bit different. Frame drops are still present, even a bit more than before, but the narrative is back on track and is similar to the written text.

As this is the end of a series, you might expect to end with something big and in a way it does, but in another way it kind of lets you down too. After everything is settled, and the narrative is over, it’s a let-down on what happens after this intriguing story. It just feels like there was more potential but now it just ends abruptly. This might also be because we have received this kind of ending, chances are you get a different one.

Conclusion

After months of being inside the skin of Louis de Richet, or others, it’s finally time to say goodbye. The frame drops might be a nuisance at times but you’ll probably press through as you want to know how the story ends. As the biggest part is information and conversations, you might be bummed out of not having actual puzzles to complete. The ending, or the one we received at least, had more potential but it was a nice way to end this episodic narrative.
