Three Essential Retro Casino Classics

Three Essential Retro Casino Classics

Retro gaming is a big industry. Everyone loves to hark back to more simple times when games were free of neverending open worlds and could actually be completed. For those who played back in the day, casino games were plentiful. Often easy titles to make money on, developers put them out as low-budget options. Yet some were exceptional and hold up to his day. Below, we give our three retro casino classics.

Casino Kid

In the history of gaming, Casino titles have been plentiful. An easy-to-create game using random number generators and requiring little in the way of graphical capabilities, most platforms would have pocket money-priced games of blackjack, poker and slots lining shelves.

Yet in the past few years, Casino games have become extremely complex. The core concepts are the same, but improvements in the look and complexity have been noticeable. For example, casino games online at places like Planet 7 Casino have a whole range of different variations. Table games can be played with different rules, and side bets and even standard slot games have complex bonus rounds. This is what makes the Casino Kid games all the more quaint.

The first instalment was released in 1989 with the second in 1983. On the Nintendo Entertainment System console, your goal is to make as much money as possible so you can defeat the evil King of the Casino. The western version has poker and blackjack, while the Japanese one adds slots and roulette.

Trump Castle

It may be hard to believe, but the former US president had a history of gambling games bearing his moniker. Trump Castle is a series of games produced by Capstone Software, released between 1989 and 1993. They could be found on home computers such as the Commodore 64 and Atari.

The concept behind it was Trump’s casino in Atlantic City. Each includes a range of different gambling games such as blackjack, poker, and slot games. The game met with very good reviews, with praise for the depth of the game and concept. There were three iterations of it in total.

Oddly enough, it was not the only Donald Trump-themed game. He even had his own real estate tycoon city builder title.

Golden Nugget

Golden Nugget had two outings. The first was on the Nintendo 64, odd for a console that liked to chase more family-friendly, game show titles. It had a packed roster with ten classic casino games included. Also unique for casino games of the time was the option to play in multiplayer modes.

Its second iteration was on the Nintendo DS. Having a more tactile platform with a stylus made the game feel much more lifelike and with a host of games, it was hard to get bored. You could reset your bankroll anytime you liked, with the simple premise being to win as many games as possible.

There are many others, some even built into systems like windows. Yet for a real blast of nostalgia, these are the ones you can’t afford to miss.
